If a Hollywood studio released a dark comedy about the second coming of Christ - Log Line - "He did is his father's way the first time, now it's his turn" - would you watch it? A serious question from a curious screenwriter.

Here's how to make it work. You need to go for the growing agnostic and atheist demographic. The bible is so horribly full of contradictions that it is almost hilarious if it weren't a subject so close to a lot of peoples hearts. The show "Big Love" (HBO) had it's share of the religion is ridiculous but in a sensitive way as not to offend. The "Dameon" flicts had a similar touche attitude towards religion. I think you can pull it off only if you 1. piss off a group so that they all go see it so they can complain about it, and 2. show how idiotic religion is when it comes to public behavior modification (a la, you must pray to the mecca 3 times a day)... What kind of god would need to be prayed to 3 times a day??? LOL. Remember, ROI for a screenplay: controversy, and near truthful facts. That fat idiot Michael Moore has perfected lying in the media. Follow his lead and you will make millions.

No. Hollyweird, like many in Yahoo Answers, just don't get it. Christians are tired of the same old poking fun of, or blaspheming Christians or Christianity. The whole "dark comedy and Jesus Christ" would not be in my top ten of things to go and see.

Even if you don't care about offending us, how about the bottom line? Make a movie we'd actually enjoy, and see what you could make. For example, compare the box office receipts for the Last Temptation of Christ vs. The Passion of the Christ.

Last Temptation of Christ: Total US Box Office receipts for lifetime of the movie: $8,165,112.00.

Now, let's look at the box office receipts for ONLY opening day of The Passion of the Christ.

The Passion of the Christ: Total US Box Office receipts for the opening day only: $83,848,082.00.

That's a ten-fold increase just on the opening day. And so that you can really get an idea, here's the lifetime US box office receipts in the US for The Passion: $370,782,930.00.

So, think about how much one could make if they actually catered to the Christian audience, rather than trying their darnedest to offend them.

Not likely. I didn't see Sara Silverman's "Jesus is My Homeboy" and she is totally hot. If you have a good director and cast, I will consider it after the masses have finished digesting it.

No, I couldn't bear to watch how someone who does not know Christ at all would erroneously and blasphemously depict him.
