You cannot make your dog trust you, but in time with much care and time well spent with you.He will eventually trust you as he gets to know you.Dogs are eager to learn, make learning a playful experience. He will then earn your trust and in turn trust you for all his/her needs.Get some books at your local library that can help you with some ideas.Good Luck

1. Don't ever hit or smack her
2. Don't do the technique of rubbing her face in pee if she has an accident indoors. Dogs can't associate the past peeing event with what you're doing, so she just sees you as mean and irrational when you do that.
3. Be a consistent leader. Nothing erodes a dog's trust like confusing inconsistency. Every command you give and rule you make must be consistently and fairly enforced.
4. Use positive reinforcement training.

You have to earn her trust! She will trust you if she sees you are the person that is caring for her, loving on her, and feed and waters her. If you yell at her, hit her, or ignore her then she's not going to be a very trusting of you.

It takes time to get a dog's trust, but once you lose it, it's hard to get it back.... ever!! Dogs don't forget easily!

It depends on how old she is. If she is not a baby, It would probly take some time but I think it could work. Just show her love and attention and she will come around. Dogs are known for being very loyal animals but if she was owned by someone else before and was mistreated she could be having her own insecurites. That dosen't mean you can't turn her. Just be patient, she will come around.

Positive Dog Training: What is It?
To me, positive dog training is...

using methods that enhance our relationships with dogs.

The methods of Ian Dunbar, for one. Using clickers with dogs. The Tellington TTouch. Rewards when the dog does what we want.

Maybe it's helpful to say what it is NOT...

It is not using training methods that hurt or terrify the dogs.

It isn't electric shock, no matter how "humane." In a milder vein, it isn't teaching a puppy to sit by shoving his butt, nor is it teaching him to heel by yanking on a choke chain. It isn't thinking in terms of punishment.

Is it possible to train every dog using solely positive methods? I don't know. Maybe not. But it is possible to do far, far more positive dog training than people are doing so far -- and that is one of the main reasons I'm creating this website, to add my bit to this movement.

In the last few years, many trainers have crossed over to using clicker training and similar positive dog training methods rather than the forceful approaches. You may hear them called crossover trainers for that reason. There's an organization -- the Association of Pet Dog Trainers -- which emphasizes this approach, advocating "dog-friendly" training.

For many years, the thinking has been that dogs are descended from wolves, wolves are pack animals, and therefore you must dominate your dog.

But we are in the midst of a paradigm shift here... a significant change in thinking is going on. Positive dog training is on the rise.

It is not so much a matter of the old ways being wrong and the new ways right. Rather, positive dog training approaches are more useful.

Instead of thinking of our dogs as beings who are ever-alert to dominate us if we don't dominate them, we can think of them as beings who like to feel good and don't like to feel bad.

In that simple shift, new joys open up in dog training -- and in every aspect of our lives with dogs.

Do not yell at or spank your dog. You just use a very firm command with them. They know when you are being firm - no need to yell or spank. Love, love, love her - chihuahuas thrive on lots of love and attention. They are companion dogs - they are there to love you and be loved. My little girl knows that I would never hurt her - and she will let me hold her any old way - and listen to what I say to her (she actually understands what you tell her - it is amazing).
