I was just reading about the saints, and I enjoyed the story about Padre Pio. He was the first stigmatized priest in the Catholic Church and was just canonized in 2002. I am not Catholic, nor am I much of a religious person, but I feel strangely calm and serene when reading about the saints. I also liked the story of St. Rita as well. I would have to say they are my two favorites.
I also agree that there are a lot of dumb answers to this question. Don't these people know that you don't actually worship a saint? You ask them to pray for you..............

Saint Alyssa
Patron Saint of the Sick
"St. Alyssa (Ayssa is a modern variant of the name Alice) ) was born at Shaerbeck, near Brussels. At the age of seven, she entered a Cistercian convent named Camera Sanctae Mariae, and she remained there for the rest of her life. The Cistercian community was inspired by her spirit of humility. However, at an early age, she contracted leprosy and had to be isolated. The disease caused Alyssa intense suffering, and eventually she became paralyzed and was afflicted with blindness. Alyssa's greatest consolation came from reception of the Holy Eucharist, although she was not allowed to drink from the cup because of the danger of contagion. Known for visions and ecstasies, she died in 1250.

The Holy Spirit is my patron "saint".
Greek hágios, saint
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you...26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy (hágios) Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
