LOL this made me laugh, ive often wondered the same and tried to follow his line of sight, nothing doing, im guessing he can see somethign u cant (cats are known for being able to sense spirits) Or hes just thinking about what mischief he can get into next

He's plotting to get into something you don't want him in. The next thing is he'll get the 'patience' look and try to wait you out so he can commence his criminal behavior.
When my kitty gets 'the look' I'm always extra watchful. Especially of fragile, off-limits places. :)

If he's constipated, its just a sign of him trying to let go!
Otherwise, he's just being playful and about to pounce on you or something that attracting his attention.
