Dear Sudhir,
You yourself has given the best answer. as per you both Hindi & English is necessory for Communication, One for Home/Homeland and other for foreign or alian person(may be an Indian also).
Apart from We use many Mouthly expression in Hindi, such as Talu, Murdhanya, Danta etc etc....
There are specific meaning in our relationship word. but in english there is only one word for every realation.
as Chacha, Mama, Phopha, Taya, Dada, Dadi, Nana Nani, Mousi, Booaa,
but in english Uncle-Aunt, Grandpa etc...
there are countless difference in both language.Apart from grammer there are also social differences. U can feel only after take it personaly. Speak to a Bengali in Hindi and English. Look what respect you get one after another.
And in Bihar speak in english "then" look what you get personaly.....
So good wishes for your kind soul , search .......

You need to be managable in both languages. This is because 90 percent of people in Rural India (and even in Urban India in states like UP, Bihar etc) dont understand English, hence Hindi is required. On the other hand, most people in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and North-East dont understand Hindi properly, hence, we need to have some English. But if you are living for a long time in some place, then some local language is required, since, you find some people who dont understand either English or Hindi. I am staying in Bangalore for some time, and hence, have to communicate in Kannada to the above mentioned people (although broken). In the nutshell, three languages are required. English, Hindi and Local Language.

The need to know any language is to communicate.
So, an honest introspection is needed about the area where we are going to communicate, whether others can understand us.
That will decide what we need.
We either teach others what we know, or we learn what they know, to fulfil the need of communication.
