Tuna can not cause malnutrition whatsoever! But I will say that some Vets refer to "malnutrition" as being over-weight, thus canned tuna can do if feed to a house animal (without the benefit of exercise) on a regular basis
But not un-healthy for your cat in the sense of nutritional value. After all, tuna is a major source of protein for body builders, diet enthusiasts and nutritional experts across the world.
Diarrhea and/or runny stools can be due to the change from dry food to something moist like canned tuna or even canned cat food for that matter.
You are not harming him at all. Cats instinctively love fish anyway. Thus so many of the cat food flavors are "Ocean" oriented.
Once a week I give my cats canned Salmon and Mackerel meant for human consumption. They not only love it, but meow and purrr........with delight.
I have 9 cats currently, plus an assortment of animals that I love and nurture with all my heart.
You are doing right by him to give him this little pleasure.

No. I have to disagree. Once in a while is ok, weekly, I don't advise that. Most cats love tuna, and an occasional tuna treat is fine for them, but too much tuna can cause some serious medical problems. We're speaking here of tuna that is marketed for human consumption: most tuna-flavored cat foods are not 100% tuna, and contain nutrients such as added vitamins and taurine which are necessary for a cat's health. Fish is a good source of protein and other nutrients, but too much fish in a cat's diet can be harmful. Tuna is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids and requires substantial amounts of vitamin E to preserve the fat. Cats fed a diet containing excessive amounts of tuna can develop steatitis, also known as yellow fat disease. Be aware that the high amount of mercury in some canned tuna is detrimental to your cat's health. Tuna should not be a staple of any cat's diet. The best thing you can do is to feed your cat the best cat food you can afford, like Wellness or Chicken Soup. Talk to your vet!

it should be ok. I often will drain the tuna can water on their food and they love it. and after making my sandwich the third of the can that left i give to the food bowl and mix into the food as their extra bonus. none of my four cats has had an adverse reaction in fact they wish i did it more often. I have also given them salmon. and one cat licks the condensation off all glasses and bottles in the summertime so just use common sense treats are fun.
also Catnip has more potential to harm than tuna. just my oppinion...

You don't give him the whole can, do you? That might be a bit much. A little bit once in awhile probably won't hurt but check with your vet just in case. Cats are a lot more sensitive to human foods than dogs are.

You can feed your cat tuna fish any time you like, even with fish oil which is good for the cats' coat.Do not worry about your cat getting fat or heart problems.Your cat will love you, but do not worry if your tabby brings you gifts like rodents and birds. It is a cats' way of giving you a gift for treating it so well.

Just be careful with magnesium intake (which can be pretty high in some fish) and can cause kidney problems. Just check the can make sure your not overloading, watch for diarrhea or soft stool.

tuna in oil would be better. but tuna has A LOT of mercury in it and will build up to cause big problems .the body cannot get rid of mercury.
