Cool Breeze ~
In my opinion, I would have to lean towards HBO, given the fact that Manny Stewart is a world class Trainer and a former fighter. As a former pugilist, nothing is worse than hearing somebody comment on my sport that didn't have the intestinal fortitude to get in there and lace em' up.
Larry Merchant, Jim Lampley, Al Bernstein and Steve Albert are okay mouthpieces, but they give nothing to a fight fan who boxes or use to box, they often get caught up with one fighter and from the sound of their "Objective" commentary, one would think that there is only one fighter in the ring.
Manny always inserts the not "Favored" opponent into the mix and often times you can see him shaking his head off to the side as Larry Merchant goes on one of his tangents about "How he elevated himself to super stardom tonight"
There's nothing better to listen to a person that has actually experienced what you are watching. Just because a person reads a book on Brain Disorders doesn't make him a Brain Surgeon.
Even in this forum the guys/girls that often answer questions here, you can tell the ones who never boxed and the ones who did just given the very nature of their answers, now does that make the answers of those who boxed better than the ones who never boxed? Nope, but there's nothing better the hearing "It" from a person who's been there before instead of a person who likes to sit by and watch.
Thanks for the great question Cool Breeze!

If I had to go back to a decision on between one or the different (I have both) i ought to decide on HBO. They continually have more advantageous acceptable fights and combatants and interior the previous few years their high quality controls has superior. i'm confident they have a larger funds to artwork with as well because their shows are produced a lot nicer than Showtime's. Showtime's fairly solid, yet HBO is merely more advantageous acceptable.

HBO. i think lampley does a great job calling fights, steward provides a great expert opinion, and although corny at times, merchant often provides a good perspective of "the bigger picture". i think showtime has REALLY caught up with hbo in the last few years, their commentators as well as their quality of fights. also, i'm glad to see showtime giving alot of bonus fights, like fights that may be good but not headliners, more undercards, and the shobox "the new generation".
if i had MY CHOICE, i'd rather hear bert sugar call a fight than anyone else.

Jim Lampley is the man! Steward & Merchant are just okay. They're much better than the Showtime guys.

I think Lampley is the best hands down at calling a fight...Merchant is horrible and takes forever to ask a question or make a point and he is biased against fighters he doesnt like (jab judah). But steward is very good, being a trainer himself, and they also have guests like roy jones jr. who is pretty well spoken, and he provides some great insight as a former great fighter

I'd have to say HBO. Even though my answer is total bias because I don't have Showtime!
