I was a swimmer and our coach always said it was because we were dehydrated. Drink lots of water. It seemed to help me. I've also heard that it's because you're low in potassium. Eat bananas. I never found that to work, but I've been told.

I don't know why, but I have to say I totally sympathize with you, you described exactly what happens to my feet (mainly toes!) It happened when I was shopping Saturday... my toes just decided to start cramping! So annoying/painful! It happens to me alot when I go swimming as well. I wonder if it has something to do with the way I hold my feet. And I also have high arches.

oh i know what you mean but mine come at any time during the day my toes under the arch calves my toes be going north and south east and west and i cant even massage them through it is so escrutiationg. but to answer you i was told it was potassium and dehydration. drink water when you get it and see if it reduces the agonizing pain.. one told me it was arthritis but i refuse to believe that. i tried the water it eased it a little, but talk to the doc about it and see if they can help. once it was too much potassium.

There are several possibilities, but plantar fasciitis seems like a likely place to start. Check out http://familydoctor.org/140.xml to see if this might be what you're talking about. The website also gives ideas on treatment. If this is not what's going on, bring it to your doctor's attention.

It sounds to me like a Charlie Horse. It feels like a heart attack in your foot yes? I would increase the amount of water you take in as well as potassium. Bananas are a good source of potassium.

I get those too sometimes in my foot, but mostly in my calves. I have heard it can be a lack of calcium, but could be dehydration or lack of other vitamins. I have also heard that drinking ginger ale helps. One thing you can do to immediately get it to go away is to unarch your foot.

I get them quite often and have come to the conclusion they are heat cramps. I get them most in the summer while/after driving.

Could be Spurs...they can xray and determine if it is. Go to the Dr. and get it checked out. It could be that you need shoes specially made to fit your arch better.

either your shoes is too small, or you need to take a little extra salt in your diet, or you need to see a doctor, I'd take the last option first.
