A friend of mine has a lump in her big toe- could that be cancer???

It is not possible to answer your question since no one here can see what you are talking about. Usually cancer is not associated with 'red spots' . . this sounds more like a mole or a birth mark of some kind. If you are asking if toe cancer is a possibility than answer to that is yes . . cancers of the toe exist. There is no part of the body that cannot get cancer . . cancers of the toe, feet, fingers and hands are usually melanoma (skin) or a sarcoma (bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartiliage, soft tissue). From your description of this spot and the fact it has not changed than it is probably not a malignancy . . however, this could change as you age . . so keep an eye on it and if it begins to grow or darken in color than see your doctor.

It is possible. Actually, a classmate of mine found her cancer from pain in her big toe. It ended up being bone cancer and she passed away within a year after her dx. Now, it could be a number of things, so don't worry until you know for sure. She must see a doctor soon though.

It could be a number of things. Feet take a beating, that's for sure. But seeing as all cancer is is a mutated cell spreading rapidly to the healthy ones, it's definitely possible.

MELANOMA can occur over toes, or it can even start from underneath the nail of a toe. It is a dangerous cancer and spreads quite rapidly, and therefore considered highly malignant.
