I would say around 5 to 6 months... when he got his head straight up and start to notice and understand his environment more. My friend brought her baby home to Vietnam when the baby was 5-month-old. So I think it was fine for a 5-month-old to fly.

Just be prepare to be busy... good luck!

A baby can ride in aeroplane as soon as you like. You may, however, have a personal choice as to when you think this is appropriate. You should ask the airline for a "bassinet" which is another word for a baby cot - but these will only really fit small babies as they are what boils down to an oversized cardboard box. Airlines do have specially allocated bassinet seats, which generally have more room. You do not pay, or pay 10% of the fare for an infant, which status your child has untill they pass their second birthday. The designator is, however, NS which means "no seat" - so you will get a special bassinet seat but the infant does not get a seat in their own right. Note that airlines have a limited number of bassinet seats so if you are going somewhere please do book early and I would suggest that you book directly with the airline by telephone or with a properly accredited high street IATA agent. The other important point is that they do not get a baggage allowance (!) which you will need to bear in mind when packing.

Your baby can travel in an airplane after she is about 3-4 months old. I would strongly recommend you purchase an infant's fare seat, not a bassinet and definitely not travel with the child on your lap. When you purchase a seat for the child, you can carry your car-seat onto the aircraft. Secure the car-seat to the airplane seat, strap the baby in, and your child will have a much safer trip. I've seen infants who were traveling in their parents' arms actually fall sharply to the ground when the plane hit strong turbulence. I've seen this twice. Once, the child struck her head on the leg of the seat in front of her. It was pretty bad. You would not dream of driving with your child on your lap; airplanes are going 10 times as fast as cars so there is no reason at all to put the child at such risk!

Purchasing a seat for the baby also lets you have your hands free for the flight so you can feed/entertain/clean her, and she might be more likely to go to sleep in the car-seat, too.

I took my then 9 month old girl to Ft. Lauderdale Florida, from the airport in Kansas City. She was a good baby, slept most of the time and spent the rest of the time entertaining the passengers.

There're no specific conditions of any kind to take infants with you on the plane. You can take them with you before or after they are born. A child taking birth on the plane is called Air Borne. They have special priviliges in the airlines where they're born. And I think, they can travel free of cost all their life on the same airlines.

They can ride in an airplane right after they are born, so it's not a problem.

Our daughter (now 14) flew home, to meet my parents, with us at 2 weeks of age. Only a 4 hour flight, it wasn't a big deal..... she slept through most of it.
