and i just wonder if any of those making the bad coments could ever wonder why people are having immigration trouble in the first place, fact of it is immigration seems to think its ok for a husband and his wife to be apart for 3-4 or more years, for what ever reason INS my have for doing this, ask your self how could your family deal with this, how could you pay to rent a extra home for them and all the long distance phone bills, this really distroys peoples lives, to have to wait many years just to have kids, on and on and on each of us only have a short life to live should anyone have to live in depression and poverty just because a team of people from the government can play with your life as they wish, and call it defending america from terrorist, i feel they have included harmless people in their list of targets, my wife is one of them, i fully disrespect anyone who would distroy a family to strengthen a political view to gain votes, please tell me how this can be as it is.

All the ugly comments come from people who are COMPLETELY CLUELESS what it is having to leave your own country for a better life. They are not human, they stand lower than animals.
And you know why they are so scared? Because apart form being popped out here and gotten US citizenship as a present, they have NOTHING else to be proud of. They are stupid, never achieved anything and want everyone else to suffer and be nobody like them. Guess what? The tables will turn and one day the new immigrants will be mocking you, xenophobic nonentities. A really intelligent person possesses a noble heart and a sharp mind and understands why US laws create illegals out of people who work hard , pay taxes, but weren't born here and that's their only "sin".

I don't know your situation and will not ask. Just wanted to say that there are a lot of reforms needed to corrrect problems with the immigration system. I dont believe that anyone would intentionally destroy families, however, there are a ton of politicans that use many things of this nature to gain political favor and votes. We need to elect honest people with the desire to settle such problems and put them in areas of authority. This problem is compounded by having to defend America from terrorists and those who would do us harm. It is a sad and unfortunate side effect that the government is not very fast or efficient in making changes, but then again if they went fast, it could be a whole lot worse than it is now.

Some folks here are so unbelievably ignorant about immigration issues it's not even funny. Most people here don't even realize that a huge majority of the illegals in this country originally came here legally on a plane with a VISA. But the process of staying legal and renewing VISAS or obtaining green cards are so difficult and a lot of times based on luck that it can become a frustrating experience.

So, instead of shouting insensitive and uninformed remarks such as "you came illegally so don't complain if your family is separated lol", or "maybe instead of being illegal try to become legal, it can't be that hard lol" try to research how tricky the immigration process is. IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE! Illegals spend thousands of hard earned dollars trying and trying for years to become legal but sometimes it become almost impossible because of a broken system, even for people with no criminal background who own homes, businesses and have been living in the country paying taxes (YES, ILLEGALS WHO WERE ONCE LEGAL ALSO PAY TAXES, FOR YOUR INFORMATION).

Back to the question. It's sad that families are torn apart because of a broken immigration system.

There are two sides of the border where people can reunite. Why is the expectation that they should do it on THIS side?

I agree there should be no ugly comments to those seeking help, however.

As with all countries we limit how many poor people can come because poor people and their families cost more in education and other benefits than poor people pay in taxes. The rest of us have to pay for them, or we have to stretch school and health care money to pay for thier families as well as ours. That is ruining our schools and healthcare, due to all of the illegal immigration. Many countries don't let poor people immigrate at all for that reason. Because we admire immigrants who come legally to make a new life, we do allow some. However, each one is a cost. There are too many who want to come, and that is what makes the line long.

However, no one is keeping anyone from their spouses or children. They would just have to be together somewhere where we don't have to pay more for them.

Being in this country as in illegal alien is a crime. People that want to give anmesty to illegals are seriously disrespecting all the people that enter as legal immigrants. Why should the U.S. or any country tolerate the illegal entry of foreignors. The illegals voluntarily departed their own country to come here, willingly living their families, and elected to support two or more households, and must have realized the difficulties involved. Yet you apparently want us to sympathize with their voluntary plight.

The people that come here illegally are the ones that elected to separate from and destroy their family - so you must disrespect all the illegals in this country!

About 1/3 of the GNP of Mexico is the funds recceived from Mexican citizens working in the U.S. and sending the mone "home". Check with Mexico and found out about their illegal alien policy, its alot less tolerant than ours.

Like it or not, and apparently you don't, the borders of this country are not as secure as they should be allowing terrorist to almost enter at will. Remember the bomb laden car on the ferry in Seattle, only a very observant custom agent allow the apprehension of a terrorist.

Millions of people have immigrated to this country legally and there is no reason that everyone that wants to enter shouldn't follow the law, those that don't or haven't should be returned to their native country. Legal entry allows a thorough background check and generally prohibits the entry of terrorist and criminals.
Sorry you don't like it.

What I wonder is how many of the people complaining about "illegal aliens" had ancestors that entered this country without "permission" and took the land from the Native Americans??? Doesn't that make us all a little "illegal"??? The United States is a country built on immigrants. And I say those who can't accept that should go back to where THEY (or their ancestors) came from!!! And by the way, not all "illegals" or those of hispanic background, are "mexicans", just a little info for those uninformed folks.

I respect your point of view, no offense here... but I always wonder why doesn't the family follow their family members into the other country? You can be together there and work together, then you wouldn't be apart from each other. And I agree with Zoe, many men leave their families behind and many times they start a new family in the USA. I've heard of many cases where this is true.

I guess I fail to understand your question or your problem. Why would INS insist that a husband and wife be seperated for 3-4 years. Many immigrants come to this country and get married so they can stay. If for some reason your wife can't come to the country your in, what keeps you from being in the country she's in. None of your question makes sense to me.

Well, I think xenophobia is in our genes. Other primates have the same feelings. It is known of groups of chimps chasing, or even luring, a chimp from another group en then kill it and eat it.
We don't have to obey our genes though. The drive in males is to produce offspring. There are plenty of males who can keep this drive in check.
Those of the human race who cannot control their xenophobic genes in this respect are like primitive primates. They can easily be manipulated by politicians, who are necessarily shortsighted because the next election comes after a short period.
A long term policy would recognize that fresh blood in a nation is a good thing. Also that newcomers most of the time show more initiative which will be good for the economy.

Do you watch the news? That nut job that just drug that poor woman to death behind his car in Denver was an illegal. He had been arrested previously for suspicion of something or another, and released even though he was an illegal, because Denver was "sanctuary" town - in other words a place that illegals could come and go without fear of reprisals. Because this man was released, a vicious horrible crime was committed. Now, do all illegals commit violent crimes? No. Do many Americans commit violent crimes? Yep. HOWEVER, because we let this guy go - who was using a falsified ID card (a felony in and of itself) we now have a guesome and horrible murder. Come here legally, please!!!!
