What is the volume in oz or cl for a normal glass of cognac in a bar?

1.5 - 2.0 ounces. Do not use the measure of laying a snifter on its side and filling it to the rim. As popular as this may be, it is totally crazy. The volume of cognac you would need to accomplish this would vary by the overall size of the snifter. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

As an aside, brandy (of which Cognac is a sub-category) need only be warmed to the temp of your hand - hence the shape of the snifter. Customers who ask for their cognac to be warmed in any other way (like in the microwave or a heated glass) are idiots. And you can tell them that I said that!!

lay a brandy snifter on its side. pour your favorite cognac up to a half an inch from the rim. if you are at a bar you'll only get about an ounce to an ounce and a half
