My OB-GYNE doctor placed me on a hormone treatment ( Dianne-35) for 3 months and then she requested me to repeat my Ultrasound. I'm on my second month of treatment now. If you have PCOS (Polycistic ovary syndrome) you may need a medication to trigger ovulation and become pregnant. Clomiphene (Clomid, Serophene) is an anti-estrogen medication that you take for five days in the first part of your menstrual cycle. If clomiphene alone isn't effective, your doctor may add metformin to help trigger ovulation.

If you don't become pregnant using clomiphene and metformin, your doctor may recommend using gonadotropins — FSH and LH medications that are administered by injection. Because many women with PCOS have elevated levels of LH, your doctor may recommend treatment with FSH alone.

Make sure you discuss this with him in detail on your next visit.

My friend was diagnosed w/ PCOS as well. As others mentioned, weight gain is a side effect, usually from higher testosterone levels. From what she says, hormone treatment is the best so far. It's a science so far. Doctors are hit and miss with the treatment. I feel your frustration, We have been trying also. Good luck to you.

The best treatment is exercise and weightloss. I have a friend who just had a baby and she has PCO. She is taking Metformin. It's part of a metabolic syndrome and can lead to, if not already present, high BP, diabetes and heart attacks. Good luck.
