Salat:

"A prayer ritual performed 5 times a day by all Muslims over the age of 10.

Salat is very different from praying on the inspiration of the moment. A precise ritual is followed at 5 separate times of day which are set aside for devotion:
Between first light and sunrise
After the sun has passed the middle of the sky
Between mid-afternoon and sunset
Between sunset and the last light of the day
Between darkness and dawn
While an individual can pray on their own, Muslims prefer to perform Salat with others, as this demonstrates the unity of all Muslims.

Having specific times each day to be close to Allah helps Muslims remain aware of the importance of their faith, and the role it plays in every part of life."

Don't Muslims see the vanity of this? It isn't something that that comes from your heart. It's a prayer that some man has made up and said that God like it. Isn't there a danger in this kind of worship? A lip service but hearts far from God?

It's not lip service if you're doing it because God wants you to, and you sincerely want to please God. How do you know where other peoples' hearts are when they are praying? Are you psychic?

can u tell me that u are completely honest that u remember God all day and at all times and never let God's rthought ever slip ur mind?can u honestly give me an answer that u always remember God before every little thing u do and after every little success.? NO, that isnt possible unless u have left the riches of this world and become a saint in far off mountain and jungle.

why should we pray?
Qu'ran -- Al-Baqara | 286 verses | The Cow سورة البقرة
Sura #2 | Madina
45 Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded,
46 Who know that they will have to meet their Lord, and that unto Him they are returning.

Al-Ankaboot | 69 verses | The Spider سورة العنكبوت
Sura #29 | Makkah
45 Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do.

should all of us pray? NO. it is obligatory fardh -- for those who can. women here enjoin more. why? as Prayer is obligatory for women during their monthly cycles, during pregnany and during lactation and post-partum bleeding. also women have an added advantage -- they can pray at home -- if they are busy and cant go to a mosque.

Muhammed-pbuh has said --"if u cant stand and pray, then sit down and pray. if u cant sit down and pray then lie down and pray. if u cannot lie down and pray then pray with ur tongue."

why do we pray 5 times?
we cannot remember God at all times, that is why man should make some time for God, however busy he is. God deserves the most attention, but God isnt merciless -- that is why He understands if we dont pray when we are busy. and if one has missed a prayer, then he can pray any other time as Qaza Prayer.

what will we gain by praying?
Ar-Rad | 43 verses | The Thunder سورة الرعد
Sura #13 | Makkah
28 Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest(Satisfaction)!

The Arabic word Islam means SUBMISSION to the "will of Allah". If you look closely at the person who claimed that Alla wanted prayer 50 times a day, but the "prophet Moses" got that down to five....WTF? The reason Islam spreads by violence is because the Quran tells them to. Its what Allah wants....allegedly. Seems to me that Muslims are really slaves to whomever controls the daily "Allah Channe;". So-called "prophets" can make changes in what "the will of Allah" is at their personal whim.

The only time I will bow to another person will be when I bend over to show him the moon.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE!

It was never made up my a man, rather it was an order by Allah. At first, it was 50 times a day. Later, by advice of prophet Moses (pbuh) prophet Muhammad (pbuh) requested Allah to reduce it. Step by step it was cut down to 5. It was done because prophet Moses (pbuh) thought Muslims wouldn't be able to pray that many times. And Allah atlast set it at 5 times a day.
