Sawm:
Abstaining each day during Ramadan, the 9th Muslim month.

"Sawm is usually described as fasting, but it actually involves abstaining from all bodily pleasures between dawn and sunset. Not only is food forbidden, but also things like smoking, chewing gum, and any sexual activity.
Muslims must also make sure that they do not do or think, anything evil.
Sawm helps Muslims develop self-control, gain a better understanding of God's gifts and greater compassion towards the deprived."

WHY WOULD GOD BE HAPPY WITH THIS?
Let me first say that I am a Christian but I do not agree with the concepts of organized religion. I believe that the worship of God should be of the utmost importance AT ALL TIMES and not just when we want to, or during a certain period of time such as lent or sawm. I believe that if we are worshipping God and feel that these things associated with sawm or lent make God happy then they should be done at all times and not just a period of time that man wants.

de·ism (dzm, d-) Pronunciation Key
n.
The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation.

LOL!! No I am not a "deist". Your logic is a little off. LOL

I din't say that God does not want order. I just said I don't believe in organized religion. And believe me, a person doesn't need organized religion. God is worshipped and served much better without it.

SWORD/LORD

WHAT A NAME YOU GOT. ANYWAY, IT SEEMS YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS CONFUSED. LOL...NO...ROTFL

As the added detail and the context of the question states quite clearly. This is for Muslims and their practice of sawm as well as Catholics and their practice of lent. As for spelling...I really hope you don't think God cares about spelling or that you are absolutely wrong in saying I had any words spelled wrong. He doesn't even care that you were confused about a perfectly asked question.

JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW...IT'S NOT INSTRUCTED BY ANY GOD. IT WAS INSTRUCTED BY A FALSE PROPHET. GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS WOULD BE TO SERVE AND WORSHIP HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART AT ALL TIMES.

Friend, if you believe in God, but not in organized religion, that makes you a Deist. Google Deism or Deist and read more about it, it may benefit you.

Yes God will be happy if the created humans obeyed all of God's instructions and prohibitions.Fasting or sawm is instructed by our God in our holy Koran during 29 or 30 days of Ramadhan month. It is compulsory.Fasting in other month or day is optional not compulsory. If we obeyed this instruction we will have a reward. from our God.Fasting is a training center for all muslims for getting a good control of their desires or passions. We should always control our desires, because without this control we will act as animals and we can be controlled by satans.By fasting we
will have good health and be more humanism, more social, more patient and not greedy. We will feel how misery to be a poor people,so the richman should help the poors. Our loves to help others will increase by fasting. Our faith will be strengthened by fasting. Satan will be conquered by sawm. This good behaviour is in line with God's willingness. So that is why God would be happy.

Fasting is an english word that we understand, but ramadan is not a christian holy day and christians do not worship on those days. Christians do not accept customs from the koran either.. You sound very confused and need to read the bible and be a christian..

i agree with u..but real islam is to worship Allah everyday. they must pray 5 times everyday. that will make every moslem always remember Allah in their daily activity. so its for sure that they will feel Allah watch them everytime and every single breath. so they are encouraged to do good things and keep away from bad things. However human is always renegade due to their weakness, they'd prefer to follow their desire even it will break relationship, society, and human civilization. ramadhan is the month written in Qur'an and Allah ask every believers to sawm during the whole month and they encouraged to do good things which will be rewarded multiple by God. Moslem believe that sawm in Ramadhan is only for believers not for moslem because many moslem doesnt fast also. Only believers will fulfill what Allah command them. They fast in Ramadhan because Allah ask them to do that on that month. But in logical reason sometimes if we consider our body and soul is a factory which always running for production (good things and mostly bad things) so the factory need maintenance (over haul) at least one month in a year. to make it fresh again.

why do we fast?
to know the hunger of poor and needy
to have self control over our emotions and needs.
u cant commit sins and evil deeds and not have evil intentions when u fast, thus it is a mechanism to clean and rid ur heart of anything evil or wrong.

muslims dont fast only in the month of Ramadhan -- u can fast anytime during the year , even to thank God or ask for His forgiveness and mercy.

u dont have to prepare urself for a fast. u have to prepare urself to persevere and to control ur entire system -- body, mind and soul. Ramadhan is not just about fasting, its time for us to learn to keep ourselves in control. it is a time where one can learn to deal with the evil things and intentions and looking forward to being a better human being. it is a time to learn to forgive and ask for forgiveness.

Ramadhan is the time for people to better themselves in virtues of endurance, patience and forgiveness. thats what its all about. it is the time to learn to give.

as for me, there is nothing to prepare, becoz i try fasting almost every monday and thursday, supposedly the Gates to Mercy and Heavens are supposed to be open on these days. so yes i am looking forward this Ramadhan to be a better me.

IS FASTING COMPULSORY? NO. it is an obligatory fardh -- for those who can.
QU'RAN -- Al-Baqara | 286 verses | The Cow سورة البقرة
Sura #2 | Madina
183 O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil);
184 (Fast) a certain number of days; and (for) him who is sick among you, or on a journey, (the same) number of other days; and for those who can afford it there is a ransom: the feeding of a man in need - but whoso doeth good of his own accord, it is better for him: and that ye fast is better for you if ye did but know -
185 The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.

EDIT: why would God be happy if u fast?
what is the aim of every parent? that their children should be good and healthy individuals and should help the society. they should prosper yet understand the needs of others and have self-control to certain things so that they dont fall into wrong doings. now when parents can wish this for their children with whom they spend a few years, why shouldnt God want His Creation to prosper and be a good human being.

our own righteous deeds are filthy rags before God, our rituals are of no pleasure to Him. A contrite heart He will not despise.
