To eat healthy, get some yogurt, fresh fruit and vegetables like baby carrots and red or green peppers, lean lunch meats, whole wheat bread, peanut butter, things you can make a health snack from. You also may want to have a few cans of soup, especially chicken noodle which is great if you come down with a cold. Popcorn is good, but look for things with more fiber that you like to munch on like sesame seeds or pumpkin seeds. In the freezer, you could keep some frozen fruit bars for when you want a treat, or some sugar-free Popsicles. Things to avoid: chips and other high-fat, high-carb snacks, too much sugar, and of course, beer (you're probably too young to be drinking anyway). If you want to have a few "junk" items, get those 100-calorie packs and only let yourself eat one pack. Finally, keep active. Walk as much as possible. If there is a gym, try to get there three times a week to work out. And when you are eating at those all-you-can-eat dining halls, don't take them up on the offer. Eat sensibly and you'll do okay. At least until finals week, when anything goes.

For snacks, low fat microwave popcorn and buy a couple of jars of fancy seasonings. Salsa is basically a free food on any diet and goes well with baked tortilla chips to avoid unnecessary fats. Red seedless Grapes ( wash and freeze them for a great low fat high energy snack....eat frozen )For a quick breakfast...low fat cottage cheese with pineapple or peaches. Add a dash of cinnamon and Splenda for added taste. Keep tomato soup and vegetable soup on hand. Fruit juices can put on pounds if you use them as a beverage rather than the food they actually are.To get the maximum vitamin c drink 8oz. of V-8 instead of OJ. V-8 is also very filling if you just need to quiet hunger pains between meals.
