The role of religion is to stifle freedom and hold back progress, it is to advance ignorance and superstition and authoritarianism.

I think what you are asking is either, "What is the role of Religion in Nation Building or Does Religion play any part in Nation Building or Do you think Religion should play a part in Nation Building. If I was to answer the last question, myself, I would say, No, Religion should keep out of National Building. However that is not the case, and what is interesting is that two nations in which religion plays a very definite part in nation building, namely Israel and Iran, are mortal enemies. As Jesus said "Render unto God the things that are God's and unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's. In short. Religion and politics are like oil and water, or even more direct, it seems like God does not approve of theocracies.

I think alot of the responders do not understand your question. I found an excellent essay on the role of religion in nation building. It mainly discusses post WWI eastern European countries, it is very interesting. Here's the address:

If you are asking about the National Building such as white house, or any government building....NONE there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, as stated in the Constitution of the United States.

well, i think it plays a vital role, if not in reality, in ideal. Religion create unity amongst people and their is a popular adage which says, united we stand and divided, we fall. so, if Religion can create unity, don't you think it can also bring about nation building?
