My little feller is three. I call him all the cute names too. But now that he can talk well, he says "No, Im Will." or he will claim he's not a pumpkin that his is a little boy or a baby. "I not a pumpkin, Im a baby." he says.
He is my joy. I have never been so tickled in all of my life as I am by him.
Dont worry as soon as your baby can talk he will let you know he's not a muffin.
Hug em tight they grow fast, I have another baby and she is 13. I still have nicknames for her and it is away for us to be silly and loving.
God bless you and your little one.

I call my kids all sorts of nicknames--they change daily. :) However, my mom calls my older son (Jacob) her "Little Duck." The other day, I called him to eat dinner. I said, "Come on Jacob--it's time to eat!" and he marched over with his hands on his hips and said, "No mommy, I'm duck!" He's 2 1/2 now, so hopefully by the time he reaches school age, he'll realize that his real name is Jacob. :D Then again, there could be worse nicknames than "duck" for a kid. :)
My little brother's last name is Swan. When he joined the Navy, one of his drill sargeants in basic training started calling him Goose, and that stuck. He's 25 years old now, and his friends still call him Goose. LOL

I call my 3 yr old daughter monkey because my mom called me and my brothers that so it must not have bothered me that much. My grandpa calls her Babida and she hates it and tells him she is not a babida it doesn't mean anything it just sounds funny. Nicknames are great as long as they come from a loved one and is not mean and is not brought up in front of future dates.

A lot of people do have endearments for their baby, but every child and every parent grows out of it. Once your child is grown up enough to express his views he will start letting you know that he likes/ dislikes what you call him. Its a part of his growing up and the parents becoming more mature about their parenthood.

I call my son (Martin) Martie or "E"--and of course his cutesy name--"Chubby Chipmunk." He's the fourth and I've decided that Martin Eloy Lovato IV is far too big of a name for such a small guy! I hope they don't haunt him later!

At times I call my daughter sweetpea but everybody else including her dad call her by her given name.
I really don't like nicknames....the child will outgrow it and for an adult they always sound silly.
