3500 calories = 1 pound of fat ..

the best thing to do is
cut 250 calories from your food intake (each day)
and burn 250 calories through exercise each day

this will aid you to lose 1 pound of fat each week ..

250 + 250 = 500
500 x 7 = 3500

it is not healthy to lose more than 2 pounds a week after the first couple weeks..

if you are still losing more than 2 pounds a week, this is mostly due to muscle loss (you don't want that)

you can however lose a great quantity in the first couple of weeks due to excess water weight

I think 3,500. But its not healthy to lose more than one or two pounds a week.
