I am trying to think ahead for the holiday season. I would like to start some new traditions with my family this year, as my son will be old enough to be involved. I LOVE stockings and the goodies you can put into them.
What are some creative things you put in your families stockings every year that they look forward to?

I know what kind of stuff to put in a stocking. But what I want to know is what traditional things you either put in them or did your parents put in yours...

My mom always get me and my sister each a special christmas ornament and puts it in there, this has been going on for over 25 years! I didn't save them all when I was younger but I have a collection now.

My mom always did underwear. It is a very funny memory now! You could do funny socks if you don't like the underwear idea.

I always put a Sugar Daddy candy bar in my dad's stocking. They can be really hard to find. My mother in law always get a bar of soap which makes us all giggle.

Since your son is still young, I suggest thinking of something that he can continue as long as he likes. Maybe he could shop for a pen for everyone. Or a joke written down. You should just ask him and then it will be a sweet story in five or twenty years when you all are still opening the same little thing every year.

Santa always leaves a grouping of 3 or 4 of those candy canes that are not flavored peppermint (cherry for example) tied together with a ribbon and hanging over the side of the stocking. My son always knows that Santa has been to our house because the candy canes are hanging in the stockings on Christmas morning.

When my kids were around 3-5 I would put their favorite candy some nuts and fruits and I'd always have one really good present that they wanted.Something like their favorite movie or PC game. Now that they are 16-17, I still do everything the same it's just that the "special" gift has become WAY more expensive, jewelry and ipod's and video games add up real quick.

Candy. I'm going to put some little toys in my sons stocking this year. My mom always put jewlery an candy in ours. Just put little things in there that are to small wo wrap or things that you don't feel like wraping. That's what i'm going to do. Good Luck and Merry Christmas 3 months early : )

One of the things I remember getting in my stocking when I was a kid was apples, oranges, and nuts. :) I laugh when I think about that. That was my moms tradition. My kids think that is so funny.
My stocking stuffers are usually novelty candy, hot wheels, electronic gadgets, CDs, DVDs, cologne, gloves and there is the tradition of the Lifesavers book.
A tradition for us is that each child gets an ornament every year especially for him.

I love how you are starting your own family Christmas tradition. You can put hygiene product sets in the stockings; nail care, foot care, or facial sets. For women: make up, nail polish/remover, or a purse size wallet; for men: a wallet, watch, socks, undies or boxers, or a portable tool kit; for children; markers, crayons, play doh, or coloring books. Boys: toy trains, action figures, trading cards- Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, lego building sets, or video games. Girls: Barbie or Bratz dolls, faux jewelry, poster of their favorite band, team, doll, etc..., or diary.
All of these are fun things that can fit into a stocking.

My oldest son always got a pez dispenser and candy. He's 22 now and would be so disappointed if he didn't get one in his stocking. But now, I always buy extra packages of the candy too. They're always gone before Christmas dinner is ready.

My mom always (and still does) put in the chocolate letter of my name. I now do it for my kids. I don't eat the chocolate ( don't really like it) but I would be dissapointed if I didn't get it. Also the good-ol life saver book! It is not a tradition, but I always put the little fun toys like silly putty, bath fizzers, poppers, etc.
