My current kitty has lived with my roommate's kitty for about 2 months (same age, same sex) and they get along fine. My roommate is moving out which is the reason I want to get another kitten. I've heard that males are easier to deal with than females but most importantly, I want them to get along and be happy. Another thing is even though my kitty is neutered, he still 'pleasures' himself about 3 times a day by licking his private area. Just wondering if I should be concerned about introducing a female kitten into the house.

That age span is a little far apart. Another female cat age one or two would be a better match I think. A kitten is usually too much for an older cat to handle.

Shelters frequently have older female cats who have had a litter of kittens. The kittens of course easily find a home and the unfortunate mother is overlooked. A slightly older cat will be spayed too by the time you get her.

A kitten can work probably. Just consider the benefits of having a more mature young female. No being kept up all night with kitten crazies, being able to use the same foods and feeding schedule as your other cat. I think life would be easier than taking on a youngster.

My foster cat is 5 and still pleasures himself. Some cats are just horny! he should be just great with a feline friend if he is already used to it. I actually think girls are muuuuchhh easier b/c they don't spray or try to roam as much, but it just depends on the cat. Go for whichever cat seems sweet and gets into your heart. Any try to adopt a kitty in need if you can.

BTW, I always advocate that cats have a pal to keep them company. They entertain and excersise each other and really aren't that much more work or cost at all.

No worries. As long as both cats get along with other animals, there should be no real problem. If the male cat is territorial, he might try to dominate her in various ways, but I have never encountered a female cat who can't hold her own.

When you go to the shelters (which I hope is your plan!), talk to them about which cats get along with other cats to make sure you get a good match.

They should be fine. They might hiss and spit at each other for the first couple of days but then they'll get along fine. Be sure to alsoe get your new cat spayed/neutered.

All should be fine, but i suggest you got to a shelter. There they will know if the young cat you are getting likes company. Some cats are single cats and others are happy with others.
She will also be desexed and all vaccinations done.
