"By oneself is evil done; by oneself is one defiled. By oneself is evil left undone; by oneself is one made pure. Purity and impurity depended on oneself; no one can purify another"
- Buddha -
This is one of my personal favorites...

A beautiful expression I believe, and one that expresses the universal truth of personal responsibility. Be there a heaven or be there a hell, there is no force which can compel a human being to enact good or ill. Thank you very much. Zen?

there is some truths in it: we can will ourself to be impure but we can't never fully will ourself to be 100% pure physical, spiritually & mentally . the fact is we r all imprefect & mortal just like buddha, he died & stay death as all of us, not 100% pure physically to be immortal. that's why JC stand out above all, he died & rose again (immortal) & he 100% pure & stand in proxy for our imprefection (sin) by dying on the cross.

I can't 'fix' you. I can only 'fix' me.
Each of us is responsible for our actions and our outcomes in life. Ooh, but it is so much easier to 'blame others' when things don't go our way on the first try!

Do I agree, NO. No one can do anything of themselves but what they turn out in a worse state than when they started.

I was with you up to the "by oneself is one made pure".
Only Jesus Christ can make us pure.
