This was very successful for me:
No red meat, no butter, no margarine, nothing fried, read all labels carefully to avoid fat. There are good fats, though: Fish such as salmon, olive oil, almonds. Those are good for you and will raise your HDL cholesterol, which is good. In 3 months I got my total cholesterol down 99 points and triglycerides down 75 points by following this diet carefully.

Drink one glass of water in the morning before eating anything. Afterwards eat one bowl of oatmeal with some sliced fruit like bananas or apples. The cholesterol level will decrease very fast.

Also, have your husband eat 1/4 of an avocado. This will raise his good cholesterol level, which fights the bad cholesterol.

Exercise more and see site below for diet and the foods that are the real culprits? Could it possibly be dead animals? All animal foods and no plant foods have cholesterol. But it does not cause high cholesterol since when you consume it your body produces less. It is caused by saturated fat which comes mostly from animal foods.

From experience I would recommend reading Dr. Andrew Weil's books.

He has vital information and besides very good recipes that tackle exactly what you are looking for.

I was having similar challenges as your husband early this year then I decided to go back and read, really read and practice Dr. Weil's advice.

And yes, it did help!
