I am 23 years old and I am 195 lbs. I don't know how many calories I should be taking in every day. I do about 10-15 min of exercise every day and have changed my eating habits. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. What is your best way of losing weight? (Weight Watchers is to expensive for me.) Thanks for your help.

Well I've been struggling with my weight forever (like since I was 24 and I'm now 30) but I found the only way to sustain weight lost is to find a exercise program that doesn't seem like exercise like I took up martial arts and dancing. You could be into hiking or something or jogging or something that you enjoying doing and would do even if you weren't trying to lose weight. Then if you exercise consistently (3-5 days for 30-60 minutes each time) and make healthy eating choices you'll be well on your way. I don't count calories because it's annoying and i hate it. I just try to eat a lot of veggies and lean meats, chicken and fish, drink tons of water and don't give up yourself. If you mess up and eat a brownie don't beat yourself just get back on track. You'll do great.

First of all you have to check with your doctor. You may need a specific type of diet plan for your health. You definitely have to get exercise.But the main thing about eating to lose weight is not only portion size, it's also selection, and frequency of intake. If you eat smaller, and I mean smaller meals 3 times a day with healthy, small snacks in between, it will help keep your metabolism high which helps you lose weight. You also have to drink eight 8 oz. glasses of water every day. Lay off the sodas, regular and diet. they cause your stomach to swell and make you feel hungry more often. As far as choices, remember lean meats, less beef more fish and chicken, a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grain breads and pastas. If you need something sweet, have a small amount. You will be surprised at how fast and how much you will lose but most of all, how much better you will feel. You can do it!

Try making little changes first, and be patient. With willpower and a good diet/exercise program, thousands of people much heavier than you have sucessfully lost weight, and there's no reason why you can't do the same. Think of it as taking one day at a time, and if you can change your habits for one day, every day, you will be successful. Either way you are going to have to eat to stay alive, which makes dieting harder than other kinds of problems..you can't just quit eating! However, making realistic changes in the way you are eating can have a gradual but positive effect. And lastly, learn to love yourself just the way you are, so that every ounce of weight you lose makes you just that much more fabulous! Self esteem shouldn't come with a weight attached, and acceptance is key in helping yourself to overcome a weight problem. Good luck.
Having gotten on my soapbox, I feel the best way to lose weight is through the South Beach Diet. You eat very healthy foods, cutting out sugars, trans fats, and complex (refined) carbohydrates. You don't have to measure your portion sizes and you don't have to weigh any foods or buy special foods. You will go on 3 phases. Phase 1 starts out for the first 2 weeks and you eat only veggies, proteins, and "good fat". After the first 2 weeks you have lost between 9-15 pounds! Then, you go on to Phase 2, where you gradually re-introduce fruits and dairy products. Now you are losing 2 pounds a week on average. You don't get hungry and you DO lose weight. Check them out at Southbeachdiet.com!

you need to up your work outs from 10-15 to hour and if losing weight is your goal try Fast pace walking, Running, bike riding. Cardio work outs.

I've lost 106 lbs in the last year with out working out, and just counting calories and drinking lots of water and eating less. I still snack on junk food alot too.

I'd say target goal on calories would be 1500 to 1250. Anything less is just to unhealthy. I went with 1100 calorie a day eating. Let me tell you some nights you are just tooo hungry.

Ok, first of all, don't get too crazy counting calories....I do it and it's terrible...You should eat about six times a day..three small meals and three snacks...I've lost about 120 lbs. and I've done many diets like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers but I realized that if I really wanted to lose the weight, I needed to have strongwill power...if you have that you can build your own diet and stick to it without having to spend any money...Remember to limit your portions and not eat fried foods, junk food, empty calories, limit your sugar intake and so...and you should exercise about 3-5 times a week...if you started 10-15 mins a day it's okay..just add five or ten more minutes each week...and don't push yourself to extremes...remember, a good weight loss is about 1-2 lbs. per week...Good luck!

cal= weight for goal x 10.

goal weight (one way) is height, every 1" after 5' is 5 lbs.
so 5'5" = 125, get it?

exercise should be worked into your every day routine, and don't do it really hard or force yourself, it has to be fun (think: if i was totally thin right now, what kind of ex. & how hard would i ex? so do that)

get a diet book (or look up usda has lists of ALL foods & calories) & a kitchen scale (digitial is best, but regular ones are cheap). write down all food & calculate cal.

i promise you, i am 1000% sure, if you weigh food & count cal, and eat exactly 10x your goal, you will get there, and really fast.

(your goal doesn't have to 100 lbs or whatever your long term goal is. if your short term goal is 175 or 150, then 1750 or 1500 calories is ok!)

good luck.

you are probably on the right track already, but dont expect to see any significant results after a week. Because thing of it this way, lets say you were your ideal body weight, and if its the holiday season, you wouldnt want to gain a bunch of wieght in one week for eating more than usual would you? Just remember, the slower you loose weight the better.

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be

I can give you a 6 week diet I tried before and lost 30 pounds.
Each week is different from the other , the most important thing is to reduce the amount of carbohydrates and fats
1st week :
breakfast : coffee or tea(you can have any with milk) with one spoon of sugar + one fruit +two brown toasts with yoghurt or one boiled egg

lunch : any amount of grilled vegetables or salad ( u can add salt and lemon for dressin ) + 1/2grilled chicken or two peices of grilled meat or two grilled fish

dinner : two fruit with a glass of skimmed milk /orange or apple juice or one brown toast with fatless cheese with orange or apple juice ( juice should be without sugar of course)

2nd week :
breakfast : one brown toast + a big spoon of honey or jam + coffee or tea (milk is optional ) or juice

lunch :
salad or grilled vegetables also + white pasta without any kind of sauce(u can add ketchup and mustard ) or( chinese rice) or (one boiled potato ( puree`) with salt , lemon and pepper)+ glass of orange or apple juice

dinner : fruit with any amount ( take notice that mangos , dates , grapes and figs are not allowed - high calories )

try this the next two weeks and the exercise you need to do is walkin or jogging for 30-40 minutes everyday ( don't do aerobics now for the muscles , so they can't get bigger)

let me know the results
