How fast is a police car? Like 0 to 60, in how much time.
And what is their top speed.

I never can get a straight answer when it comes to police cars and how fast they go, acceleration wise and top speed.

Just a regular police car, not the mustangs; Well if want to talk about it too that’s to.

Ok so their may not be any technical specifications, but if you were to guess, what would it be.

Michigan State Police test almost all police cars each year for a variety of factors, including acceleration and top speed. Here is a link to their web site showing you. The top speeds and accelaration will also vary based on the aerodynamic drag of the light bar and emergency equipment, so your local police cars may be different. This is also based on factory supplied stock cars, which can be modified by local departments and this would also affect the speeds.

How fast do they really need to go? After all, they have the radio.

No one can outrun Motorola. . .

PS - I know that this isn't a "real answer", but I couldn't resist it. I don't know if they really release how fast the police cars go. I would think that would be one of those things you would want to keep away from the criminal element.

Besides, it isn't always the speed of the car - it's the driver behind the wheel. A good driver will make an average car much more of an asset than a bad driver will make a fast car, right??

Depends on the car. The Crown Vics with the V8 do it in about 6-8 seconds or so. The Chevy Impalas with the V6 weren't as quick from a standing start, but when you nail it when it's going 40 or more they really can move - surprising for a 6. I would imagine the Impalas are running the V8 now, like the SS, so they are probably pretty quick. These are just guesstimates, mind you - I never used a stop watch. Top speed, from what I've heard, is in the 140MPH range for both.

Police cars are just like any other car except they have reinforced suspension for extensive driving and road wear. They can go just as fast as any other car. A police Mustang can go just as fast as a civilian one. I believe they top out at around 160 miles per hour. Chances are, the police car has better maintenance and with the better transmission and suspension system it can go 160 miles per hour longer. That's really the only difference. That and the cool lights.

Police officers are trained in defensive and offensive driving, so they can drive better than the average Joe. Any viewing of "Scariest Police Chases" will prove that.

Police cars are way fast. They can go from 0 to 60 real quick. The mustangs are even faster. The Vipers and the Ferraris are even way fasterer.

The bottom line: a copmobile can go at least as fast as your POS.

All cars are different. Some faster than others. Heck, my truck takes about an hour to get to 60mph Here's the thing though, whether I can get in behind you or not doesn't really matter. Every law enforcement officer that monitors my radio is driving towards you, and that's alot. Regular cars, like the Crown Vic's are pretty quick to get to 60 mph. Again, the car doesn't matter though.

The cruise control in a 1997 Crown Victoria squad works just fine at 126 MPH we were chasing a shooter on the expressway between towns at night. I caught a Mach 1 and kept up with a Charger til it crashed in the same squad. It's always more the driver than the car and I used to race.

As far as I know, municipal police departments do not have a nation-wide standard vehicle, therefore there are no technical specifications which could answer your question.

Dunno but had one blast past me like I was going backwards on the freeway today, I was going 65 mph [yes I DID see him coming without him having lights on lol lol] BUT he went by me at a good 85 and it did not appear to be souped up at all, just the regular cruiser.
