Apeman, both you and I would enjoy a good hover-car. Swine, however, I imagine couldn't care any less.

TammiDee, if you want to talk survival of the fittest, then it seems to me mosquitoes, flies, fungi, and algae have us beat by a mile. They survive myriad places without benefit of heat, air conditioning or pumped water.

I'm not certain intelligence is an improvement over instinct if cockroaches make it on instinct and, as a population, outwit all of our intelligence.

Humans and all other creatures have evolved for similar amounts of time. That's makes all of us about in the same boat.
Of course, compared to the rest of the universe, we're not much. The whole Earth could explode tomorrow and it wouldn't affect the universe much.

Human beings alone seem to have evolved to the point that they consider creation, and their humble role in it, which is a great exception. Neither the Sun nor the Earth understand each other. Neither the tiger nor the elephant seems to care who made them and what is the basis of creation.
In the entire universe that we know so far, human beings alone have been given the intellect by the Most High to analyze, to visualize and create as well as to remain humble, knowing their own limitations.
The Quran says although Man was created in the Best of Forms and levels, man is also capable of lowering himself to less than any creation. The words used are ASFAL-Assafileen. Worst of the Worst!!
So, it is not all good there, but the scope of the Best of the Best to the Worst of the Worst is very large indeed, more than any other creation of the Lord Most High.
I hope this makes sense.

Because we've developed more complex systems. Therefore, we can control .... try to control... every other species.
As for equally reguarded, I nearly had an accident, swirving to avoid a turtle in the road. I try to treat all animals with kindness and respect, though it is not on the high priority for most humans. I don't know.

Humans are the only creature we know of that can not only choose to go against its instincts but does so on a regular basis sometimes to its own detriment. The only creature that can see itself and examine its behaviors and change them. The only creature that can dream something, then make it a reality. Say I wish and then make that wish true. We are the only creature that can kill and feel badly about it, remorseful and wish we hadn't,. We are the only creature we know of that cannot comprehend our own death or anniliation. When asked, we see ourselves dead, or living, but definately see ourselves.
You are that

We were made in God's image.
"26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."" Genesis 1: 26

Man was created in the image of God. Man was created with the capicity to love, to make choices and have responsabilities. Man was given an eternal soul. Man has the capacity to know right from wrong. Man can choose his own path.

Creation is a term of convenience.
We discovered quite recently that hominids are at least 3.3 million years old. Blow that silly 6000 years stuff out of the water!

Because we are created in the image of God. Other creatures are not. Christ (God) is infinite (as with our souls) Creatures such as animals or other forms of creation, can not worship God to the pinnacle as we can. Nor can they love.
