I have done CPR many times. Some lived, some were not able to be saved. It is a heck of a good feeling when someone you worked on stops by the firehouse to thank you, and you know they were clinically dead before you started to work on them.

When you are doing CPR, if you do not break a couple of the patient's ribs, you are not applying enough pressure.

i had to do it twice, but was beaten to it both times. Once at a tennis court, the other time at basketball.

From my CPR training, you probably weren't pushing hard enough. It surprised me from my training how hard you have to push. You feel like your about to break their sternum.

Frankly, don't be gentle when giving CPR.

Yes, but she was technically dead (she was in her 80's) by the time we got there. CPR still has to be performed until a doctor tells you to stop.

i had to do it in school once. my battle passed out due to ami (acute myocardial infarction) and stopped breathing. we eventually intubated him to open his airway but when we were doing it his airway was patent. the most common reason for air not going into the lungs is because the tongue has fallen onto the back of the throat so remember your head-tilt chin-lift and jaw thrust maneuvers. if someone else is nearby that can help by holding the airway open it is easier.
