I never want to bleach my hair. I have trouble finding a product. Should I have it professionally done and where?

Go to Sallys Beauty Supply Store and look for Loreal High Lift Colors only for dark hair. They work awesome for lifting dark hair, I have dark hair myself and this is the only red I found that really shows up good.
You will also need a developer, ask an assistant what strength would work best for you.
You might also want to ask them about a color protecting shampoo, red is the fastest fading color.
Good Luck,

Find a product called L'Oreal Maji-Contrast in Red.
It will lift and color on dark natural bases in one step.
Otherwise ,you have to bleach first,(up to any orangey color) and then tone it red with a red semi-permanent, or manic panic type temporary color. You could use a permanent red as well, but since all reds fade ALOT,especially on pre-lightened hair"; using a less permanent product will be less drying each time you have to refresh it.

You could use a high lift tint to color your hair. You can also bleach your hair and then apply the red color to it. I would start with a high lift tint, because it is a single process. Choose a kit that is especially for black hair.

with red, there is no permanent :)
bleach it first, then use red,
be warned that red fades faster than any other color - be prepared to color every two-three weeks to retain the shade.
