Toyota Prius 60 mpg and Honda makes one too but I forgot the name. At same time VW makes TDI model cars that run on diesel such as the Golf, Passat, and Beetle its basically a 1.9 ltr diesel engine that gets about 45 mpg and on good side a diesel will run up to about 300,000 miles to 400,000 miles if you keep the maintenence up on it

i had a 71 ford pickup that ran only on the battery took no gas at all to run it top speed was 2 miles an hour and it was hard on the starter but great fuel mileage go as far as the battery would take you

keep in mind it doenst run mostly on batt , where not there yet, its a mix of fuel & electric - i would take a serious look at the new honda civic hybrid. unless you wanna look like a weirdo & get a prius.

There are a few of them out there. You don't need gas but you should buy your "D" cells at Costco.
