In between each beat. Also when you sleep, the rate decreases. When it takes a proper rest, you die. Better take care of it.

Cardiac muscle is designed differently than the skeletal muscle that you have voluntary control over. As long as the blood supply is still good, the heart never needs to rest (unless you count the fraction of a second between beats as the ions of the muscle cells reorganize, called "repolarization").
If the blood supply is bad, you get chest pain or a heart-attack when the heart has been over-worked, but even then there's no true "rest" until the muscle dies.

The heart never really rests until you die. The only type of other "resting" possible on your heart is with exercise. When you exercise your heart has to work harder, when you are awake and not exercising you heart works less. Sleep does help your heart but it still beats while you sleep. Other wise you'd die. Hope this helps :)

The heart rests when you rest. The heart is still beating, but at a lower rate. However, if you start having scary dreams, the heart will beat faster, adrenaline will flow, and you may start sweating. Technically, you are still resting, but the heart no longer is.
