Adopt them both!! ;)
j/k - border collies have A LOT of energy, and need to "work" meaning they are always busy and always need something to do. Labs also have a lot of energy, but are more likely to enjoy an evening sitting quietly on the couch with you. I love both breeds, so I guess I would probably go with the mixed one! Have fun!

Don't adopt either, until you know something more about the breeds involved than what a stranger on Yahoo Answers told you. A cute puppy may grow into a dog that isn't suitable for you, and that you can't handle. Please Google for a Dog Breed Selector, then a Dog Breed Traits List. Fill out the questions on the selector, and it will tell you appropriate breeds for your lifestyle, time, et cetera. Check the breeds traits, and determine which are best for you. Use two or more of each, not every one includes all information, or may be entirely correct.
Both breeds are high energy working dogs and need a LOT of exercise. You absolutely need to know things like that before adopting a puppy because it's cute, or it will be just one more dog in the pound when it gets older. A bored working dog may well start destroying your house because you don't have time for it, and can't run it and play outdoors for at least an hour a day.
If you've answered honestly and the Breed Selectors don't turn up either breed, please, for the dog's sakes, don't consider them.

Both are great dogs, but you will find that the border collie mix will be quite a bit more active than the lab. It will probably also be smaller.

OK READ about Labs From puppy to about 2 yrs. old they bear close watching. They will chew on ANYTHING. One I had tried to chew a dining room table leg off. On the plus side they are very very loyal dogs when they settle down Very loving and loyal BUT if an intruder broke in the lab would bark a lot then end up licking the intruders hand.I'm passing this on from experience. The best dog I EVER had was a doberman adopted from doberman rescue. 3 yrs old and a perfect lady. Already house broken and crate trained. Check one out you'll be glad you did.

My advice to you is to research the breeds of dogs and find out what suits you best. I'll tell you from personal experience that labs are VERY hyper the first three or four years that you have them and then they start to mellow out. They are SUPER sweet dogs though, wonderful temperament and great with kids, love everyone. Mixed breeds are also good because you kind of get the best of both worlds in terms of their personality and other characteristics. You need to look at your lifestyle and see what dog will suit you better: do you have kids? Labs are great...Do you have a yard? Both these dogs need room to roam, Is there someone there to play with the dog and keep them entertained? My retriever liked to chew toys and would dig herself out of the yard because she wanted company! Do your research and you should be fine! Good luck! Dogs are awesome!

I have a dog that is part lab right now and is in medical problems right now I just posted a question for help, but anyways. I personally Love labs they are great with family and kids but I will never get another one part lab or pure breed. From my experience and my parents which have a full lab it has been nothing but medical problems since he turned 11 years old. they are dealing with diabites, he lost his site, arthritis which im dealing with mine not but a more severe case, and all my friends have had nothing but medical problems with their labs.
Some people never have a ounce of problems with them and then others they have nothing but medical issues. I love my pets very much but I just dont have the money to put into alot of medical issues for my pets. My parents have put hundreds almost thousands of dollars into their lab and now with my dog having problems Im just not sure what im going to do now.
Good Luck

Wow! I have some limited knowledge about labs. Border collies are herders. I fostered one that tried to herd my lawn grass seed spreader.. She dug holes in the ground because it was hot weather and it made a cool place for her to rest.
Labs are retrievers. They love to run and chase, and need lots of activity. Both would require a fenced yard or play area.
These are the two main behaviors you need to consider...

I'd go for the black lab. They are some really sweet dogs. Forget the collie. They aren't as sweet. Also, only opt for 1 dog, otherwise they'll both be fighting for YOUR attention! Good luck! :)

do you jog daily, or plan on taking this dog to a park and playing fetch, or fly ball, or another rigorous activity at least 4 times a week? then you found the perfect dog!! these dogs are very very very high energy dogs, they are bred to do a job everyday-all day long. and if you just leave them in the backyard to "exercise themselves" or whatever, you are going to end up with a unruly, unhappy dog with behavioral problems. so many people get these breeds and then just seem to lose interests, the dog stays in the backyard everyday, then ends up becoming nuerotic about things, like chewing wood, digging holes, tearing stuff up,etc. if you cant commit to this consider getting a more low energy dog like a pug. also puppies need to be taken outside every 1 or 2 hours to learn, "outside is where i pee and poo" or they end up going on the carpet, and they get in the habit of doing it inside. if you work full time its impossible to do this.
