Sometimes, it's your body that's keeping you awake and not letting your mind shut down. Caffeine is a big no-no if you want to get a good night's sleep. Don't drink anything with caffeine after noon; you may be really sensitive to it like I am. Cola, orange soda, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, coffee, tea, chocolate.... lots of things have it and will keep you awake. Alcohol (if you're old enough) might help you relax to go to sleep, but it will also cause you to wake up in the middle of the night, so it's not the best idea. There are some pretty good things over the counter, Excedrin PM, things like that, which contain Benadryl (as suggested by the NP earlier). Just be sure to take them early in the evening, if you have to get up the next morning. If you take something like that really late at night, you will not be able to get up early.

I have the exact same problem, only I just can't stop thinking in general. What I do is play some quiet music in the background with my cd player . . . it has a timer that will shut it off automatically at a certain time. Then I focus on my breathing and becoming aware of every single part of my body, very slowly, starting at my toes. Focus and try to feel all around and trhough every part of your body before moving on up. Imagine your body as empty and your focus slowly filling it up. SEriously, don't move on until you have completely relaxed the area you are focusing on. On good nights, I usually lose focus around my knees, on not so good nights I get all the way to my head. If that doesn't work, have a cup of hot, non caffeinated tea before going to bed, and no sugar or anything energetic.
Good luck!

You question sounds like a man who broke up with you and now you are losing sleep because you miss him???
If this is the case, you need to stop valueing him so much as a person and learn to value yourself. Self love is one of the hardest things for any of us to master, but it is truly the key to happiness AND a good night's sleep.
I'm not saying become an ego maniac or some other self absorbed person. I'm talking about genuinely loving yourself and knowing that you deserve to be treated nice. A man who knows you expect to be treated right, will do so.
Also, who wants to be with someone who doesn't want to be with you? Trust me when I say there are a lot of fish in the sea, but before you go fishing again, you need to feed your soul with some self love. Write down all the things you like about yourself and the things that you wish were different. For the things you wish were different, write down a list of things you would like to do to change things.
Don't put anything physical on the list unless it is something you can change or are willing to put the work in to change it.
Have you ever met someone who was beautiful but their lousy personality made them ugly.........also, have you ever met someone who looked average, but then their great personality made them gorgeous?
Well, the same can be for you. If you are already beautiful on the outside, good for you.......If not, then let your inner beauty shine through your eyes and smile and body language. Let your eyes shine and twinkle with your zest for life. Laugh and smile as much as possible.
Love yourself, and you will be loved in return........and sleep much better.........I promise

Stop obsessing.
Think of something relaxing that takes your mind far from him and think of how good you will feel in the morning after you have been asleep. Dream peaceful things, swim in your tired dreams. Good night.
