It seems like if your Christian you are automatically target for bashing by the media and ignorant people. Yeah I will admite you got christians out there who got it all wrong and are nutcases, but you are going to get that in any group.

There just seems to be a huge double standard it is ok to bash christians, but if you bash any other group its wrong.

Please take a look at your Bible before writing questions like this! The Bible clearly tells us that people will persecute us. They persecuted Jesus Himself, why would they NOT do it to us too!? Take a look at 1 Peter 3 and 4 for the correct response to these folks. We are to continue on as before and give them a reason to ask why we have hope within us. Please know that your reactions to their ignorance makes a big difference. He just may use your reactions to draw them to Himself. Bash away, I say. Kill me, if you must. He knows the plans He has for me. They are to prosper me and give me hope! Hallelujah!

Well.. i wish it were that simple. On one hand , you have the religious radicals who bash anyone besides themselves or their church.. then you have the christians who seriously truly believe that their hateful remarks and mean comments are justified because they do it in the name of the lord. I think that the usual bash is in response to something that happened to that person by a christian.. such as a christian stating that person was going to hell for whatever reason... etc... Normal people do not just get online to bash, unless they are just very unhappy.. in that case let them wallow in their pity, i always say.... And it has to be hard for modern christians too. I say this because they tell people their beliefs without being asked, many of them.. and as soon as they do that, without realizing it, they put themselves on that moral pedestal.. so then all of their mistakes are multiplied by 100. And so when they start preaching to others, those others do not want it.

On the other hand, you have radicals in every group - white , black, gay, straight, christian, muslim, etc... people are people where ever you go. Just a lot of the churches seriously tell christians that is okay to defend their lord to the other churches, and other people.. and never to be ashamed of it.. so they take it one step higher and proclaim they are "better" , or their denomination is the "only way to go.. any other way, and you are going to hell"

People, no matter if they are gay, straight, christian or not do not like to be told they are wrong, or their beliefs are wrong.
A lot of christians go to the liberal sites and blog and try to wage wars for no reason as well.. and then people see this, get mad and blog about it. Which, i really cannot blame them for getting mad at that other person's hypocracy.. however, they must not think that the entire christian group is that way.. since not all are like that.. just like not every gay man wants to be in a parade. Stereotypes really will be the end of modern internet blogs lol.

And , personally I think every one should live by the "treat people like you want to be treated".. not a christian law, either.. it is a human one.

And yes, i am non-christian and liberal :) But .. i do not bash christians... i think it is wrong to bash them, call names, and point a finger. Why do i think that? Well, because i, too, have made some serious mistakes in life... we all have.

But unlike many religious followers, i think it is also wrong to bash gay people or black people, or white people, or straight people. We are all in this together.. even if we do not realize it yet.

I really do not think that it is only Christians who are getting bashed. I think it really goes in cycles. First the jews got "bashed" for not giving in the Romans. Then the chrisitians were bashed for the same thing. THen the Chrsitians bashed the jews, and the pagans and anyone else who didn't believe their way. THen there were the protestants, whew, they got bashed. Oh wait that was Christians bashing christians. THen the Christians bashed on the muslims, and the gays and the Jews and .......

I really think that it is ignorant to bash on anyone because of their religion. We SHOULD be able to live in peace, but everyone seems to think it is important that everyone else abandon their own personal faith to be the faith of someone else.

I think that that is really the heart of the problem.

I completely agree! I wrote a post about this a few days ago. It bothers me sooo much how it's all fine and dandy for people to bash Christians, but when Christians try to speak their faith, it's "offensive". I say if we can't talk about God in a positive way, we shouldn't be able to talk about Him in a negative way. It's all fair. Of course, some Atheists are gonna be like "Not everything's fair!" Okay, so if not everything's fair how come there's a big uproar and we have to change things for the minority when people talk about God? If not everything is fair, then we shouldn't have to change things for the minority. Stupid liberal media.

Because of the same reason people bash Islam: they are afraid of the dangers of fundamentalism which dominates the news. People see the marginalization of science and medicine (stem cells, evolution), human rights (FMA), and reproductive choice. And they then see the massive negative psychological baggage of fundamentalist islam and christianity, as judgement and subjugation of the very essence of what it means to be human is all a part of it. We don't see people bashing buddhists because, as a whole, the judgement, the hate, and the persecution of others and the desire to change societies into theocracies are not there. It's a common psychological defense mechanism to try and portray a group as victims when the fact remains that they're the victimizers.

Xtianity and xtians always claim they are are under attack. The media is always after them in their mind. We have a president that claims he is a xtian - (he started a war and callled it a "crusade" and meets with member of the radical xtian right regularly), we have a major television network that practically promotes the religion, several cable networks that promote the religion, countless radio broadcast by it preachers, multi-million dollar publishing houses that promote the religion, and yet followers of this faith claim they are a targeted, bashed, minority in the media. There is no double standard.

Probably because it seemes that christians are always pointing fingers and blaming... Yep they are.. Or so it seemes... You see there are some of us that do not do this.. You don't hear about us because we are not out here pointing and blaming.. I am a cathloic.. I do not beleive everything the pope says or stands for, but I still consider myself Catholic and christian.. I beleive in the 10 comandments.. I do not judge others or take their inventories.. I do the best I can to be the best I can.. People say it is religion that has this world so messed up.. That is so far from the truth.. It has nothing to do with religion.. Live and let live.. He who is without sin cast the first stone.. No religious person ever lifted a finger to harm another...

christians always claim that they are subject to a double standard, however, if they paid more attention they might realize that many other groups get bashed on a frequent basis.

I suppose that's natural, though, since being a Christian means you have to believe your religion is the ultimate reason for being and the most important thing in life, you're bound to lose perspective of the world around you.

As a group of Christians (seemingly centered in southern US) becomes more and more vocal trying to run other peoples lives, of course they will get dumped on by people who appreciate thinking about issues instead of listening to some TV preacher who finds some obscure quote in the bible and having to toe the line according to him.

Because people like Pat Robertson tells small towns that they had better watch out, that God will come and destroy their town because the school district decided to not teach what Pat wanted them to. When you yourself just called people ignorant because they don't believe what you believe. Everyone needs to live and let live. If there is a Jesus coming back, us "non-believers" will learn quickly. But if Christians die and go to Summerland to await their next life, won't they be surprised. We will never know until we have passed. So you pray to your God and worry about yourself and I'll pray to my gods and goddesses and worry about myself, okay?

Every form of religion is bashed some time. Remember, everyone thinks they are right and if someone disagrees with you, the bashing begins.
