of little boys get angry if they want to play with their sisters/cousins or whatevers dolls... is it really because they feel that this may somehow change their sexual orintation.... and why is it that after not being able to play with dolls because its for girls are then expect to help their wife with the children. i know that it is not all aprents but id like to know what the thinking behind it is.... in my family we were always allowed to lay with whatever we wanted and both of my brothers used to play with my dolls sometimes and they both grew up to be normal boys (and no none of them are gay)... i dont know its just something i was wondering...

A lot of adults are homophobic and extremely uninformed.

I would rather my 4 year old son had a doll he dragged around than any toy gun that he "shot" people with. Guns are not toys and should never be treated as such, but a lot of parents buy them for their boys to teach them to be "men".

A lot of parents don't allow their girls to play "tough" sports when they are small and push them into something like dance instead.

The end result is that that sort of upbringing will have absolutely no impact on a person's sexual orientation later.

When my oldest son was little he say a doll and wanted it, so we got it and he played with it and put it to bed all the time. Then when my other boys were born, we got them dolls too. When I was pregnant with my youngest, the middle one pretended he had a baby too and gave it bottles and diapers and such. I think that parents that let their boys do whatever they want and play with any toy is good. No one really has a fit if girls like to play with cars or trucks, so I dont see what the difference is. I would like to believe that playing with a doll will make them better parents and husbands.

My 3 year old son loves hair. So he plays with my little sisters "My Little Pony" and her barbies. I KNOW it wont change his sexual orientation because people dont become gay. I see nothing wrong with him playing with girl toys. I would actually rather him play with ponies than guns. Dont get me wrong--he plays with boy toys too---hes a very well-rounded little man. But I have never given it a second thought. People look at him or me crazy when he walks into a store or restaurant with the pony he loves so much. My thought is that he will grow up to be a brilliant hair stylist. LOL

It's kind of an old-fashioned attitude that you have to teach boys what they are supposed to like. But they will naturally pick up their own habits, no matter what you say to them about toys.

I think if somebody gets mad at a boy about that, it shows they are insecure, and afraid somebody will think bad of them because their boy isn't acting like aboy.

We never stopped our boys from playing with dolls. I always thought it was kind of sweet. One of them had his own Cabbage Patch doll, but usually we bought more typical boy toys for them.

Incidentally, the one who had the CP doll is the first one married now, and he & his wife are eagerly trying to start their family. So, there you go.

I think that alot of parents think that if boys play with girl gender toys that they will automatically turn gay. They are just uneducated about homosexuality. Children don't turn gay by playing with certain toys. It is very healthy for boys to play with all kinds of toys even dolls. They learn about nurturing, empathy, creativity and basic everyday life. Nothing wrong with that.

I actually bought a baby doll for my then almost 2 year-old son to play with when I was pregnant so he would learn how to hold it. My husband didn't have a problem with it.

I married a man who would not tolerate his son receiving 'girly' gifts, even when he was two! The answer, I'm afraid, boils down to "What would people say?" I agree with the way your parents raised you, as mine did me.

I guess it's just stereotype...
I played family with my brothers and our stuffed animals for long and my parents never said a thing.
