I am trying to house break our new puppy. He dose great when it is nice out side, crys at the door and to go out and hardly ever has accidents. But lately it has been raining and cold. I put him out every half hour and when he starts to sniff and circle, but the very second he comes he pees or poops. How do I get him over this?He does not do it in the same spot every time so I know that he is not just going back to where he can smell it.

I have a 12 year old chocolate lab who absolutely hates the rain. I understand your dilemma completely. It is good that he still actually goes out even though it is raining, but where are you? If you are huddled in the doorway, or on the porch, he will not realize that the rain is okay, no matter what.

Grab your coat or umbrella, and go out there with him. Soon he will see that nothing had changed, except a few drops of water. Good luck, and whatever happens, remember to have patience. He is young yet!

My 7 year old dog won't even go out in the rain. Much less pee. You do need a covered spot for him.

i had the same problem so in my back yard i put up a little tent like thing, and he started going under there, now almost a year old he still goes in that little spot and there is no mess all over the yard...you just got to teach him to go there....

oh not really a tent just made out of poles and tarp...with the grass at the bottom

That's not unusual. I'd try training pads. You're doing great if you have this dog trained so fast. Many/most dogs won't go out in bad weather to poop. Would you? I have two elderly dogs that I won't allow to go out in bad weather, and they are pretty consistent about where they want to pee, so that's where I put the training pads.

Last year this time I was training my boxer pup, he hated getting his feet wet so asking to go out to pee/poop was difficult, when it was wet or raining, i would bring him out to get used to the grass or weather. than just scold for doing his business inside, i would show him where he did the deed, and send him outside...he eventually figured out that if he did the business outdoors, he got a treat, your puppy is still learning and young..it will take time. enjoy

she just doesnt like the wetness and the chillyness of the grass so she waits until it stops raining

Take him to the doggy psychiatrist. They should be able to tell him what's wrong. lol.
Here's another suggestion if that doesn't work:

Leave the sprinklers running and make sure the ground is wet. Leave him there all day or maybe for even two. He can't hold anything in for that long. Some people don't like to leave their dogs out for that long, but this time it's for his own good.
