No. You should go to a Dr and a therapist. Get some counseling to help you work through your depression. Your Doctor can put you on anti-depressants and/or do blood work to see if you have underlying problems that are physical.
Getting a check from our government each month isn't going to do a thing for your concentration, happiness or quality of life. You're still going to have all the issues that you have now. Might as well take steps to correct your problem (I don't mean problem in a derogatory way, I mean your issues making you blue) so you can enjoy life to the fullest.
Concentration issues could also be related to things like hypothyroid, ADD/ADHD, etc.
Go see a doctor. Many communities have counselors you can see for free or for a sliding scale lowered fee. Call places like the United Way or community resource centers for more info.

Sorry to hear that you are depressed. The first thing to do is see a doctor to treat it. Depression is a medical condition that your doctor needs to take care of.
Now, onto the idea of applying for disability. Disability is there for people who cannot work at all. It is for people who are totally incapable of working. I think that what you ought to do is get treatment and take it a day at a time. If you get so bad that you cannot function at work then take that too up with the doctor. In any case though some DO need disability though it is not a fun way to go through life. For one thing you will never have extra money to do things with. They will give you just enough for the bare minimum. All this aside, try to treat yourself well too. Get out in the sunshine and take walks as this is a very good thing for people who are depressed. It gets the adreniline going and the sunshine has it's curing effects on people who are down. Another thing is find things you like to do and hang out with friends. Go places to meet new interesting people weather it is the library, the coffee shop, whatever.
If you think it is your work that is causing most of it, find another job. Keep this one for now but get busy looking. Could be you need a new career. Look into going to college. Call there and ask for a councellor if you have need ideas. They are usually very helpful. Good luck on this and remember to take it one day at a time.

I am currently awaiting disability for bipolar and anxiety, have been for 4 years now. Mental handicap is hard to prove in the court system. Takes forever and you have to see lots of doctors. Some self pay. In the mean time you cannot work at all, which is costly in and of itself, not to mention the drugs I'm on, very expensive ! If you want to continue on, you should contact a lawyer first, they are very helpful. They will guide you as to what to do. I waited too long to seek legal advice. Good luck and I hope you work it all out.

First things first. Have you been to a medical doctor to see if you have a physical reason for your depression. Several things can cause depression. After that, you will be referred to a psychiatrist (if you haven't been already) for diagnosis and a treatment plan that you both agree to. Counseling is very helpful. These are the first steps before you decide on going on disability. I hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

If you can't concentrate then you are most probably 'chemically depressed' not 'situationally depressed'. Chemical depression is when the brain store's of certain chemicals are depleted. If you are chemically depressed you need to know this (by the way, pratically all 'clinically depressed' people are suffering from this)......
There are four major chemicals (neurottransmitters in the brain). You need to learn about them, they are dopamine, acetylcholine, gaba, serotonin. Here's a quick summary
Dopamine: Gives you motivation, pleasure & focus. Depletion results in no motivation or pleasure from anything.
Acetylcholine: Responsible for attention, memory and sensory processing. Depletion results in inability to attend to anything in everyday life, depression
Gaba: Make you feel calm and and gives you an amazing sense of tranquility. Depletion results in severe mood swings, nuchal headache, unable to talk properly and understand what others are saying
Serotonin: Required for optimism, happiness, and sleep. Depletion results in depression and insomnia.
If you can't concentrate it's becuase of the depletion of perhaps acetylcholine and maybe gaba.
That's just a quick snapshot, it's an amazing science!
Read 'the edge effect' and take the required amino acid precursors to these chemicals to build them up in the brain.
If your depressed it's othe only way, drugs that doctors will make you worse.
I did this therapy, and it's absoloutely miraculous how it will turn your life around!
YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY! Replenishing brain chemicals is the onlky way to get over chemical depression. Millions of people are depleted in brain chemicals from recreational drugs (which just release huge amounts of the chemicals at the same time, depleting them massively), alcohol, poor nutrition, or some metabolic disorder, but they just don't realise it. It's a cutting-edge science and will be the future for relief of depression.
I nearly killed myself btw due to depletion of all 4 major chemicals. Each one made such a differece, I cannot tell you how unbeleivable it is!!!!!!!!!

i think that first of all, some counseling could help, but not always
find a friend you can confide in and maybe they can get to the root of your depression...don't be afraid to be vulnerable and let someone who really cares about you know why you feel depressed. if noone fits the bill, i would then suggest some good counseling. hope all goes well. God bless your plight. Take care.

In order to go onto mental disablity you need to have a dr sign a form stating that you are mentally incapacitated to maintian employment, often times many doctors would only do it if you are a serious psych pt. though

think you'd have to
1. go to MD to have it accessed
2. go on meds to see if you get better
3. include therapy to see if this w/ or w/o meds will help.
4. last resort maybe if you were severely depressed to the point of suicide & not being able to function at all, i suppose this is a possibility but disability would probably make you more depressed
5. are you serious?

What I VERY STRONGLY suggest you do is go talk to a mental health professional about your problems. Someone in that field can help you. Good Luck.

no, the isolation from people will make you feel worse. and you will feel defeated. work with a shrink to find a good med to help your mood and your concentration. really will be better than disability. that is a spiral down.
