Target sells a "kitchen in a box", with utensils, pots n pans, and I think some basic dishes. Check w/ your new apt manager about whether you'll need a refigerator (rent for about $35 month). Bed linens, bath towels and washcloths, something to put your soap and your toothbrush in so they don't touch the counter. Sponges, a spray bottle of Lysol, some Comet, laundry detergent in an easy-to-carry container, and dishsoap should do. An inexpensive card table and folding chairs will work as a dining table/ desk. A TV w/ built-in DVD player can be had for under $50, when you get more cash. Dish rack (if you don't have a dishwasher), kitchen towels and trash can...
If I think of anything else, I'll add it...

Oh boy, a quick course! I've been there and when I moved out, it wasn't because I felt ready: It was for self-preservation.

You will need a bed, sheets, a blanket or two, and a pillow. You will want a table or desk and a chair. You might want a sofa.

You will want a broom and a vacuum cleaner. You will need a skillet for frying things, a pan for cooking, and assorted cooking utensils. A crockpot is a VERY good investment. And you will need dishes and silverware. You might also want a set of mixing bowls. You will need laundry detergent, bleach, lysol or pine-sol, baking soda, dish detergent, and assorted cleaning rags.

You will want towels and soap for you, of course, And you will need at least 1 bucket and 2 garbage cans: One for the kitchen and one for the bathroom. Oh yes, and a good pair of rubber gloves.

There are other things you will want or need, but that should be enough to get you started.

Good luck, Honey.

Go to the dollar store or Target, Walmart or Kmart and get the basics 4 piece set of dishes, cups, pots, and pan, sheets, towels, washclothes, cleaning supplies, mop, broom, bath mats, shower curtain. U can find most of what you need in one of these stores. Take a friend with u and enjoy shopping. If u don't have a lot of money outlet and thrift stores are good places to go also . Sometimes u can fine things at flea markets, yard sales and garage sales to use that are in fairly good condition.

I recently had to move into an apartment with my four kids, leaving all my furniture in my old house ("It'll sell better!" said the real estate agent), waiting for my new house to be built...so I've been there...

Don't forget these things -- they're not so obvious as plates and pots and furniture, but you'll surely notice if they're missing!

-toilet paper
-shower curtains
-vacuum cleaner or swiffer vacuum
-ice cube trays if your freezer does not have an automatic ice maker
-flashlight and batteries
-smoke detector if it's not in your new apartment
-extension cord
-lamp and night lights
-telephone or cell phone
-matches, if you have gas appliances (stove or hot water heater)
-alarm clock
-pens/paper
-clothes hangers
-trash can or trash bags
-sheets and thumbtacks, for quick, temporary window coverings

You can survive without furniture for a while...but these things are all necessary and wise to have, especially if you've got a little one with you. Good luck to you!!

You've gotten a lot of good advice already. But I would add to that some basic tools so you can simple things yourself. A drill/screwdriver, hammer, screws, and a set of screwdrivers.
