I have been working really hard to improve, but I have never been a strong runner. I'm getting really nervous, I was just wondering if anyone who has been in this position could give me some advice, or let me know how it is. Thank you very much!!

As a former Drill Instructor for the USMC I can tell you that you need to start by running perhaps two laps around a football field and over a 5 or 6 week span strech that out to maybe 20 laps. You need to keep a steady pace and don't try to speed up as your are running. Before long it will be a snap and you will start to enjoy running. Remember, it's not how fast you can cover the 5 mile run but rather how easy you have completed it. As a DI, I was running the morning 3 mile run backwards in front of my platoon and it was nothing for me to do. At 69 yre young I still run 5 miles a day. Good Luck and keep running.

You must go through Basic Training. There is simply no way around it. You have to learn what the Navy expects you to do. It is called Basic Training because it teaches the basics of naval life. It is where you learn to be a sailor. And trust me on this; more petite women than you have gone through and passed even more rigorous basic training than the Navy's. There are tiny Women Marines who would beg to differ with you about your ability to pass Navy Boot Camp. So go see a Navy Recruiter. Find out what is in it for you and enlist. You can and will pass, because most of boot camp is mental, not physical.

you MUST pass the initial fitness test befor eyou leave to RTC. Keep training. I have never been a strong runner but I survived 22 years. I am in charge of a Navy Recruiting area out west. You will get assistance in RTC to help you pass the PT test. Ultimately, the responsibility rests on you and you have to meet the Navy standards, as much as I dislike them too. Keep jogging/running and get used to this training as you will have to do it your entire career. Good luck in your career.

I got through it. I was and still am a very weak runner. I hate to run and always have hated to run. I was worried about the running as well, however I made it through. As long as you follow along and try you will make it. Do not give up and do not slack. If my slow a ss made it you can as well.

well, you don't have to run too fast in the Navy. Just remember: no regulation says that you have to be able to walk after a PT test.
