I only need three chickens... should I order more because would some of them die in the box? What is a reputable site that sells out singe chicks or in my case, three chicks?

You won't be able to buy 1 nor 3 chicks by themselves.

The most respected name in poultry is McMurray Hatchery out of Iowa. That happens to be the same place where Martha Stewart buys her backyard hens.

There is a minimum order of 25 chicks to keep each other warm in the box during transit. Deaths are very, very rare. Chicks can live without food or water for 72 hours from the time they hatch. McMurray ships chicks as soon as they hatch.

MurrayMcMurray.com

Minimum order is 25, but ask aroud at work, and among friends and you'll be able to split the bill.

Another alternative is to go to your state's webpage and check out local farms.

They do arrive pooped from the trip, but you give them electrolytes (about $4 in your local farm supply place), and they're like nothing happened in a day

There's a minimum you have to order...I believe at least 5.

I've gotten chicks from http://www.martipoultry.com/ with very good results...nothing ever died on me. You may want to request a magazine...it's free you just have to email them, but I think you can order online as well if that suits you.

Good luck and have fun.
