Jack Russells.. they're very good single owner pets. :)

They tend to be very hyper and bossy, but they'll love you to death.

I love mutts so if you're not that picky about it being pure bred then go to the pound because you can save an animal from being put down. Check out all the animals and see which works best for your personality. Some shelters will let you take an animal home to see how it will work out. Some shelters also do a pretty good evaluation of the dog and can tell you exactly what the dog needs.

If you're home a lot and want a companion you may want a needy dog. If you're not home as much you will want a more independent dog. I have three dogs..... 1 is pretty independent, 1 is independent but a little needy, and 1 is completely needy. They all work well with each other's personalities because they aren't all fighting for attention.

I foster dogs and am a single owner. You need to think about what you want from your dog: high power agility? Couch potato? How much attention you are able/willing to invest in the dog.

What is your living situation? Are you gone most of the day? Does the dog have a play area? These are all things to condsider before you adopt a dog. Do some research.

Great Dane! Very Mellow and attached to his/her owner. Does need some training (what dog doesnt) because of it's size. But it is happy just as long as it is sleepying where ever it's owner is. They are also very protective/territorial so they make a good guard dog in that they may not bite but will definitly scare the be-geezes out of someone.

a Teacup Yorkie or Silky Terrier! they are so cute and cuddly. Their like babies and kid's that require a lot of attention and love. They are great for single owners because they tend to be 1 person dogs! (they stick very close to their owner).

Do you really need a purebred? Shelters have lots of friendly dogs who would love to have a home. They also frequently have purebreds. You didn't say what the size of your place is. Do you have a fenced in back yard? Are you gone a lot? (If so you probably should get a cat instead)

they are good and bad dogs in every breed.
think about your lifestyle before deciding on what type of dog you want.puppies require alot of attention, if you work full time, consider getting an older dog. puppies need to be taken out every hour or two, or they go on the floor, atleast for the first couple months of their life. its hard for a puppy to learn "outside is where i pee and poo" if they are left inside 8 hours straight everyday. they get into the habit of going inside instead, terriers, labs, german sheperds, border collies, jack russells etc...all great dogs but require alot of exercizing to get their energy out, these breeds are bred to do a job everyday-not sit in a back yard and get bored, which leads to behavioral problems. if you have time to go running or to the park to play fetch at least 3-4 times a week then great! i just know so many pet owners that get these breeds, leave them in the backyard and say why is my dog crazy, or chewing wood, or obsessing about little things?....because they are bored!! another thing to consider is grooming, dogs with long hair are going to need to be groomed every 4-8 weeks, this usually costs $40 and up. and they need brushing between grooms. small dogs are good for apartments but they tend to get bad teeth, they should have their teeth cleaned annually which is about $150-$200. theres alot of costs associated with dogs, vet bills, flea treatment, heartworm preventative, boarding when you go out of town..etc..always buy quality pet food that does not contain corn in the top 3 ingredients, the first ingredient should be chicken, turkey, beef, etc....not corn , wheat, by-products etc....organix, solid gold, nutro are all good brands... i would recommend finding a local rescue organzation and just visiting the dogs they have for adoption, millions of animals are put down every year due to lack of space and funding. petfinder.com is a good site to find rescue groups.

good luck!!

get a low maintence dog, that is affectionate. I'm single and live alone and love my toy poodle. he was so intellegent and wonderful that he was litterbox trained within a week, and learned how to sit very, very quickly. very quiet, wonderful dog.

you should pick a dog for your lifestyle. if your active get an active dogs. if your lazy get a lazy dog. it also depends where you live. if you live in a house you could get a big dog , where apts require smaller dogs. all dogs require attention and love.

Any mix will do - the animal shelters and pounds of the nation are full of dogs that would love to own just one person.

German Sheperds are the best dogs to own. They are loyal, easily trained, instinctively protective of their owner and family especially here children are concerned. I know my children are safe playing outside with my German Sheperd around.
