My physical therapist has me lay on my back with my knees bent to my chest, then turn both legs toward your left hand and hold, then turn both legs toward your right hand and hold.. repeat about ten times.. Also, lay on your back with both legs bent, straighten one out almost all the way and raise and lower it from the floor about ten times, switch legs and repeat. Another: on back, legs straight, pull one knee up to chest and hold as long as possible, switch legs, repeat 5 times

I understand where you are. I've lived with back pain for over 20 years. Mne is related to a disc problem. Be careful about Vicodin, or other narcotic pain relievers. I can tell you from experience that they can cause more problems than good in the long run. I've found that exercise to strenghten the muscles around the affected area work better than anything else. Unfortunately, this takes time, and in the beginning makes you feel worse. I'd recomend following with your doctor ASAP. Good luck.

I spent one year with unrelenting pain due to an injured spine, unlike your situation i found some relief in stretching to take the pressure off the nerves in the spine. I would suggest getting a few opinions from specialists before embarking on any cure.

From personal experience, this is a miracle for me.
Lie on your back
Pull your feet towards you , so your knees raise slightly.
Put your right shin over your left knee and pull your left thigh towards your chest slowly.
Repeat on your opposite side.

Also, a different exercise, lie on your back and push the small of your back towards the floor, to kind of flatten your spine.

I have fought lower back pain for years, the best thing I have ever done was started stretching but most of all stretching my calves that relieves me more than anything.

The best way for you to be safe with this is to talk with your doctor. Ask him what he definitely doesn't want you to do, and what you should do. He's the only one that knows exactly what the problem is, so he will be the one to get the instructions from.
