The vet mentioned a dog food. I thought it was Eukanuba, but I cannot remember what it is and do not seem to be able to find it. I heard it was as good and less expensive.

There are lots of options depending on what your dog is allergic to.
Z/D seems to be bestfor dogs with undetermined allergies.

Eukanuba makes FP (Fish and Potato) and KO (Kangaroo and oat) which are designed for allergic dogs although I do not know thier price points.

IVD also makes allergy diets in duck, venison, rabbit, and whitefish.

All of those foods are by prescription only and will need to be purchased from a veterinarian!

I hope you find an affordable food that's ok for your pup's allergies. :-)

There is another prescription food called DD that is less expensive and is pretty much the same thing as ZD just not quite as strong. If your dog has been doing fine on ZD ask for vet if he thinks DD will keep your dogs allergies under control. Then if your dog does fine on the DD he might could be dropped down to Eukanuba potato and vinison diet. Which is like DD but less expensive and slightly weaker. Again it all depends on how bad your dogs food allergies are. Consult your vet before changing it though.

Is your dog allergic to other dog food? Most doctors will put a dog on Z/D as the last resort. Because it is very expensive and you cannot feed your dog anything else, no treats-nothing. It defeats the whole reason to put them on this diet. It is the best dog food to have when you have a dog that is allergic to other dog food. But you have to be diligent in watching what your dog eats. Good luck.
