I have non invasive cancer and atypical hyperplasia and I'm taking tamoxifen. Do you think I should be seeing an oncologist on a regular basis, and how often should I be seen or not seen?

You should certainly be seen as often as you feel is necessary. At least every 6 months and if you would want a mammogram every 6 months, they should do that for you too. Your body has already shown it can tend toward the hyperplasia. Ask to be followed very closely for a couple of years to monitor the tamoxifen and how it is affecting you.......early detection saves lives!

TAMOXIFEN is the drug venerally administrated for non-cancerous brest abnormalities and atypical hyperplasia (Breast Cancer conditions). It seems you have not consulted a doctor to this. You should defenitely see an medical oncologist without any further delay and act as per his advise. Your visit to him aslo should be periodical say monthly once or so depending upoon the condition of disease you have.

I had non-invasive carcinoma in situ of the endometrium (which when I trained was called atypical hyperplasia with back-to-back gland formation) found at hysterectomy in January of this year, and am not followed by an oncologist. I feel confident that there is no chance of it having metastasized.

Are you speaking of breast or uterus?

it never hurts to go an have an initial evaluation from an oncologists. I have had cancer myself and I was seen by an Oncologist. This doctor told me that I would be fine by seeing another doctor. (not an Oncologist) However, she would continue to follow up w/ my doctor to make sure everything was okay and nothing new had come about. She has actually talked w/ my new doctor on several occasions and has given her opinion to him. Basically, it never hurts to have as many opinions as you want. It is your body and you have to do what is right for you. Good Luck!

You need to see your oncologist, or OBG/YN - they can work together for better results.
