How did Pope Linus become Pope? Did Pope Linus become Pope by St Peter choice, or did he become Pope by The high priest, and local people in Rome? I am a Catholic, and I was thinking of becoming a Christian Baptise, but I want to relearn the Catholic background before my choice.

as the tradition states - he was voted in in the same manner as they are today - the conclave of the cardinals.

there was one Pope in 1290 that was a local man - very devoted. he was "made" pope - he resigned 6 months later. IMO that is why you must have come up through the ranks - so you really know what you are getting into!

thanks for asking.... further research shows - i was off on the above (but leaving on to "play fair") - St Peter choose his successor and so on.... i've emailed the link! thanks for questioning so i might have a better understand too!! the part about the guy in 1290 is still true while i may be off a year or two - my note taking while in the Vatican were a bit jumbled LOL
