I'm confused at the people who say we are fighting over there so that we don't have to fight here -- over 40,000 iraqi people have died -- yes, many of them bad people, but tens of thousands more mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandmothers, grandfathers, young adults, teen agers, children, toddlers, babies. What makes their deaths less important?

Not just from the suicide bombs, and other things about the war which are terrible, but from infrastructure which was never quite finished from when we first "toppled" Sadam -- spotty electricity, water that is not clean, people who have gotten sick from bad conditions.

How is this promoting peace? Why is someone who is concerned for her/his seen as the enemy? If anyone who has stated that, and has spent time in the war, then at least you have experience with the hell that it is. If anyone who has stated that has not even thought about joining the military, and are of military age, then how dare you make judgements like that.

The problem with this war goes deep -- but our government KNEW when they went in there that they were not going to get out quickly. They are intelligent, experienced, learned men (who have never fought in a war) -- that trying to get rid of Saddam would end up in a civil war. Cheney isn't stupid -- so what in their right mind convinced them to do it this time? This is what Cheney said after the First Iraq war....

"If you're going to go in and try to topple Saddam Hussein, you have to go to Baghdad. Once you've got Baghdad, it's not clear what you do with it. It's not clear what kind of government you would put in place of the one that's currently there now. Is it going to be a Shia regime, a Sunni regime or a Kurdish regime? Or one that tilts toward the Baathists, or one that tilts toward the Islamic fundamentalists? How much credibility is that government going to have if it's set up by the United States military when it's there? How long does the United States military have to stay to protect the people that sign on for that government, and what happens to it once we leave?"

a quote Patrick Tyler included in a New York Times story published April 13, 1991, a little more than a month after the shooting stopped in the Gulf war.

Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 -- people are dying, people who want nothing more than to go outside and see a sunset -- just like you and me To say this is a necessary war is wrong. To say it is a just and deserved war is wrong. To say that the US handled this war in the best way possible is wrong. So why shouldn't people speak up and say it if it is true? Isn't that what democracy is all about? Isn't that what we are fighting over there for -- to give the Iraqi people the ability to speak their minds, and their hearts? Even if it's something that you don't want to hear or acknowledge....

IF you're a concerned parent, you should be more concerned about not bringing the war to American soil.

I happen to be married to one of the men that gets sent in harms way. We understand what the war is about. We support what's happening in Iraq. As anyone familiar with war or military actions goes, things generally get tougher after the "war is over". We captured Saddam, we still haven't won the war on terrorism. That's the goal we must complete now, along with helping to rebuild Iraq. All those military lives will be lost in vain if we pull out now. Iraq isn't stable enough to stand on their own.....yet.

As for the person who stated about the loss of Iraqi lives, yes, their deaths mean something. However, US military are NOT the ones killing them. The insurgents hide behind their fellow civilians for protection. They take cover in civilian buildings. We don't intentionally take aim at the innocent civilian. Sometimes, when the enemy is among the people, it's hard to determine who's who. Don't forget, the people in the Pentagon, WTC and the flight over Pennsylvania were innocent civilians too.

Since invading Iraq, we haven't had another attack on American soil. That should say something in itself. So let the soldiers and other military personell do their job. All this negativity does is bring morale down. Lastly, Bush isn't killing anyone. We have an all volunteer military. You know what your job is when you sign on the line.

The parent never stated if they were a father or mother. The parent never stated if they lost a kid or not. The parent never stated if they even had a child serving in Iraq or the military at all.
As far as knowing how many (soldiers)? That'll never be determined until all U.S troops, sailers, airmen and marines are home in the United States.

let me make something clear before i start here. i am not saying that the soldiers in iraq who have died are meaningless or dont matter. just to be clear. so dont twist my words around.

every day i hear people complaining about the soldier death toll in iraq. whats it at now, a few thousand? i also hear about how much of america opposes the war. and why shouldnt we? war is terrible and we see that on tv every night when we watch the news. thats part of the problem. the media for the most part only shows the negative aspect of the war. death tolls, terrorist bombings, families loosing loved ones. and when people see that, they protest it. because it is bad. but where is the story about how we recaptured a town that had been taken over by terrorists. its no where to be found

thats why we lost vietnam war, aka "the living room war." for the first time in history, war was brought into every american home live every night. people finally saw the true horrors of it all. so they protested. and the state senators, doing what the people wanted, (after all, theyre supposed to be the voice of the people), started attacking the president and military for the deaths. so a cap was put on the amount of people that could be involved in any military operation which decreased the chances of success and in turn increased the deaths because we had to keep sending limited troops into battle instead of overrunning the enemy like we could have.

my point? most people protest the war because of what they see on tv or because they have lost someone close to them. in reality, the iraqi death toll is nothing. in wwII, there were almost 14 million military deaths in the ussr, about 3 million in germany, about 7 million civilian deaths in the ussr, and millions more in many other countries. the total death toll of wwII comes out to more than 50 million people.

now say "the 5000 people dead in iraq is an outrage!" doesnt seem as terrible anymore after saying the millions that died in wwII does it. maybe thats because the iraqi war is in our very household every night where as wwII was a world away and people still respected the governments decisions

lastly i want to say i wrote this on the fly and am not gonna edit it so sorry about any repetitive stuff or mistakes

and its nice to see other people not bash our government for a change but support it in this thread. people say america sucks, but its america that fights for the right for them to do that

Why is it that when war doesn't go exactly as planned that all of the sudden the president is killing our soldiers. He isn't killing our soldiers the insurgents are. You should be grateful that we have brave young men and women who VOLUNTEER to join the service. Many countries like France and Germany have mandatory service time for all its citizens. I gave six years of my time to serve my country proudly and I support everyone of our soldiers that are over there. If you took the time to actually speak with the soldiers that have been over there you would find out that ouside of Baghdad a majority of the Iraqi's are grateful we are there and that we are having a positive effect in the environment there.

I grieve your loss. I can't imagine the way you feel not being a Parent myself. All I can say is that your loss is tragic but our Country is thankful and the mission was a good cause. I am sure that this mess will not be cleaned up soon. God bless you and others as we fight this war on the terrorists. It is time to forget diplomacy and win this war. Too much is at stake to give up now. Take the gloves off our military might and let them fight!

your one dumb *** person bush didn't kill any soldiers.2694 Men and Women didn't die in Iraq for no reason 19910 didn't get injured for no reason in Iraq, 483 Men and Women didn't die in Afghanistan for no reason 901 didn't get injured for no reason in Afghanistan for no reason.over a million Men and Women in the American military don't leave there wife's,husbands, expecting mothers, moms, dads, kids or any other family members for no reason. what they are doing is protecting your rights day in and day out. Not because there forced to because they want to. so get this stupid **** outta your head that bush is killing our soldiers.and learn those men and women do it because they want there futures and us to continue to live free.if you have a problem with that go to Arlington National Cemetery and tell a family you see there that there death was pointless.Go to a retirement home and tell a veteran that there service was pointless.so don't ever say the president is killing our soldiers because America is not run by one person its run by the People.

WOW, i agree with everybody. Bush in not killing them, insurgents are. Our fellow Soldiers, Marines, Saliors/Seabees, and Airmen are out there because they want to, remember, it is a volunteer military. So don't start with that bull crap to bring them back home, they joined and they know there is a war going on. Would you prefer a war here in American soil? i don't think so. And yes, a lot of people joined after the 9-11 attack, those people joined to serve their country proudly and are willing to die for it. Just support them and keep your mouth shut. please!

I didn't know that President Bush wore a turban and planted IED's. You know why? Because he doesn't. It is the crazy Islamic terrorists who are killing our soldiers. I guess you don't realize that a huge percentage of today's armed forces joined after 911 and Iraqi Freedom. What does that tell you? There are hundreds of thousands of people in this country willing to die to preserve your right to keep your little boy home safe from the terrorists who want to kill him. Make no mistake, they want to kill him, you, me and everyone else who does not follow their ideology.

Do you understand what we proclaimed "Mission Accomplished" at that time? The mission was to topple Saddam's regime. Guess what, we did, and then we had the interim government, then we had not one but TWO elections and guess what else? They wrote their own constitution. So yes we did successfully complete our mission. Even the US had problems for years after we declared our independence. Why should we expect whole society that lived under a dictator for 30 years to be any different. We are also fighting Radical Islamist who want to topple this new government, so we are protecting them. The yes the Mission was accomplished.

Ah the liberal rant... Iraqi insurgents and Iranian criminals are killing our soldiers.

NOW, don't blame President Bush alone for having our soldiers, airmen, and Marines over there... congress authorized it. President Slick Willie also had invasion plans for Iraq.

Just support our troops... vote out the folks you don't want in office anymore... and learn get your information from multiple sources... like Yahoo Answers.
