Absolutely not. If it weren't for religion society would be wiped out. Noah's time would be a good example.

Yes, of course it could. But people need a spiritual outlet. However, don't confuse religion with spirituality. Religions are our first attempt to express our spirituality. As usual, with first attempts, we got it wrong ('the Earth is flat' being a classic example).

Now the age of finding spirituality in and taking spirituality from religion is waning, and the age of finding spirituality in and taking spirituality from science is dawning. Maybe this time, we'll get it right.

If we don't, we won't sUrvive.

Scandinavia seems to be surviving quite well despite that most churchs are museums now. Norway actually has the highest standard of living in the western world and is utterly secular.

Society cannot survive if its members have lost the ability to share and sacrifice, if everyone furthers only his own rights and pursues his own interests, if the highest aim in life is the utopia if society is based on hedonism and egotism. it can not survive.

Impossible . Society is not of humans then. Any isolated group tend to believe in supernatural.
one has to believe in something or understand it completely once a question like "is there any super power out there" araises. So, as no one has comprehended the situation, one has to believe in something. Religion !

I don't think it could either. It doesn't make a difference what your religion is you have to believe in something. If you do not then we have no purpose. Our faith and our beliefs are the catalyst behind our inspiration to exist and coexist in a society.

Depends on what you mean by religion. I believe society could function on secular humanism:

Which does not acknowledge the existence of a god.
