Someone said English is based in Latin... what? 5% of the words? 90% of the words in Spanish, Portuguese and French also comes from Latin.

Because they kinda do. Spainish is derived heavily from Latin and countries in Latin America speak Spanish because that's the people who invaded them. It probably ended up being called Latin America because people in Brazil speak Portugese (not Spanish, but also derived from Latin)
