I want my grandson (he was an infant then) to be the only middle school kid to have 17 yr cicadas in his bug collection.

The bodies will keep for your bug collection. But you should just mount them under glass is an airtight setting.
Freezing them, then unfreezing them may destroy the bodies if they are kept frozen for too long, due to the ice crystals that develop in the tissue of animals.
So just take them out, let them defrost slowly, then mount them.

They won't be alive, but the bodies might be alright if you're careful with them.

Then again, why don't you just wait another 17 years...well, 15 years now and get some of the new ones.
