They were the first gnostics (religion based on knowledge [gnosis]). The serpent, who was actually the cosmic christ's consort and sister (Zoe), gave them the fruit of knowledge and it opened their minds and they were liberated.

Well, they weren't Christian because there were no Christians at that point. I wouldn't day they were Jewish even though they are featured first in Jewish writings. The didn't really practice a religion because they encountered God on a one-on-one basis.

None, they were just a story to help teach you a lesson. A lesson that seems to go way over your head. But try to spin it anyway you want, it'll make you less insecure.
