Puddles of blood is not a sign of heat in dogs. There should be drips and smears of blood, usually just where she sits or lays down.
Puddles of blood is a bladder infection. A bad one. You need a vet. At this point you need to go pretty quickly if she has been this way for a while.

You need to speak with your vet about this. Blood could simply be the menses, but if it's puddles (not poddles), then this is something to be concerned about.
If you dog is old enough to be in heat, she's probably old enough to be fixed. Get her spayed as soon as you can. Only professional breeders should be breeding dogs. Having her fixed will most likely help her lead a longer and healthier life. : )

In my past experiences in raising Rat Terriers, heat usually lasts for about 3 weeks, one week of just PMS and very light spotting, one week of that having bloody spots, and one week of very smelly spotting.

the blood should last about 7 days and the dog is in heat 7 days after that. the blood is nothing to worry about, completely natural...they sell doggy sanitary pads...but if you're not breeding her, please, please spay her...
